Best Battle Horn

Postby Sir Anastasia » Wed Mar 17, 2010 1:21 am

Can I get some links for real horn that can be used as both a drinking vessel and battle horn (sound making, playable type)? Thanks in advance.

A while back, I was doing some research on how to make a powder horn for some blackpowder shenanigans, and came across this~!

http://www.armourarchive.org/essays/ess ... horn.shtml

I found it moderately helpful, as it can easily function as a powder horn as well, with a stop- cog and all. I used a buffalo horn I bought at my local leather store (way back in Santa Cruz *sniff*). I didn't do any etching, since the horn was jet black anyways, and it had a fault line down one side. If I do another one, I'll make it from bull horn, so that I can be all artsy with colored inks and what not.

I've heard the best horns for trumpeting come from Aurochs. Good luck finding one of those~! :P

I you want a horn for blowing, it will need a hole at the pointy end.
If you want a horn for drinking, the drink will fall out the hole.
Your solution. All horns come in pairs( at least from the original manufacturer. Find a set. They will match. make one blowin horn and one drinking horn.
Tandy sells like 3 sizes of horns for about $20 each.

I had a friend with a horn that was used for both. I believe it had a metal piece on the end that stopped the liquid from getting out, but it could also be removed (unscrewed), and then it was like a trumpet end with a metal cap attached for blowing. It was a very fancy horn. I just wondered if anyone else had seen anything like that.

What you're asking about is called a combination horn. Here's a link for you!

Thanks on that link Rhajhiin. I've been considering getting a horn for a while now, too.
