Sculpted (non-armor) Leather Masks (Photos)

Postby Mara » Thu Sep 23, 2010 3:46 pm

I thought that people here would be entertained by these. I was at a Renaissance Faire a few weeks ago and cringed at the prices of masks ($55 for the most basic ones), so I walked over to the tanner's stall and bought myself a piece of super thin leather to work with. I’m rather pleased with how they’ve been turning out, but I still need more practice. Good thing I’ve got a few more feet of leather.

A couple of friends of mine make leather masks as well, you can see their work at http://www.facebook.com/2ndSkinLeather?ref=search

Check the photos. I have no idea what they charge for them.

Arrakis: Both are made out of very thin veg-tanned leather, wetted down with a spray bottle and then shaped while I applied heat with a scrapbooking embossing heat gun.

The mask with all the cut outs in it was painted with a dark brown acrylic paint. And the feather mask was done with leather dye on the feather bits and shoe polish on the beak. I've basically been just working with what I have.

He mostly makes armor, so the Armory is the best subforum to find his stuff:

I make masks, holsters, scabbards, leather clothes(some) and armor.
If you want to see it, Kreiger, Look.
It would be rude to derail this girls thread with my nonsense.
