Need help with a sleeve problem

Postby DJordan » Wed Dec 08, 2010 2:01 am

I have my tunic I made quite a while ago, it has one long sleeve and no sleeve on the other arm.
I only have one problem with it, the side with the sleeve keeps getting pulled down and yanking the whole tunic to one side.
I didn't use a pattern to make this tunic, but it was just fine until i put the sleeve on it.
Now I don't know if it was how I made the tunic, or if there is a special way you have to put sleeves on.
So I just need to know if anyone has any idea on how to fix this.

There is probably an issue with the neck of your tunic. It's probably too big. There might be nothing to stop the weight from shifting.

If you post a pic of the problem others might be able to better give you some tips.

Thanks, I'm pretty sure you're right.

I don't know if you can tell from that pic, but the headhole is pretty big.

From what it looks like to me, your problem is due to the neckhole of you tunic. There is probably a better way to fix it but one that come to mind is to add some weight to the other side, not necessarily washing machine friendly, but I've done had to do it with some costume pieces for some school projects and it seemed to work fine.
Call me Ox, it's easier I promise.

It's an artifact of having only one sleeve. When you move your arm in the sleeve, the elbow will sometimes cause the sleeve to pull to that side at the neck. I have the same problem when I try to wear my gambeson with the one sleeve.

I'm a little surprised no one has mentioned the obvious fix yet: get symmetrical sleeves on it.

It's part of Bugbear lore that he needs to keep one of the arms bare.

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm going to remake my sleeve with some light material and see if that helps.

My sleeve is actually completely separate from any tunic. Its strapped with fabric straps like arm armor would, tied across my chest, the top of the sleeve is obviously smaller than the bottom. Works fine and looks pretty sweet, I'll get a picture next time I'm home.
