Basic garb construction resources page

Postby Calarn the Black » Wed Dec 08, 2010 8:17 pm

So while in discussion in the WC forum, it occurred to me that, with as many people that we have that sew, we should be able to put together some basic patterns for the website. What I'm thinking (and I might be going crazy, bear with me) is basic, printable patterns for the following:

Tunics
Drawstring pants
Cloak
Tabbards

We could also include some more advanced patterns, such as:

Coats
Hakamas
Arming wear (gambesomes, arming caps, etc.)
Hats (what the heck throw it out there)
Belt flag pouches

Is this something that could be possible? I'd love to be able to refer people with poor garb to a resource like this.

look at the sticky's above, that would be a great place to add them if you have anything additional to what is there.

i think what he was asking was to create like an official standard .pdf tutorial or pattern to place on the homepage so (dag is already one step ahead of us on this one) we can standardize the basic garb instructions given to new people...

*garb police agent* "hay you don't have garb and/or crappy garb"
*joe nobody* "i know i did my best with my sweat pants and polo tunic what more do you want?"

*garb police agent* "go to this spot on the belegarth website this is what is expected of you now"
*joe nobody checks out the official belegarth garb tuts* "wow these are so easy... and placed in such a convinent place *goes to next practice in the new official standardized grab made from the official tuts*
*garb police agent* "looking good joe nobody...now lets get you looking better than "standard"
*joe nobody* ...

Embara...bingo.

i know we have all sorts of tutorials, little bits like trim work, patterns, etc., all over this forum; I'm hoping we can cull some basic ones out for the newer folks. I'm going to begin looking around here, see what I can find. Anyone have any suggested tutorials they use on a regular basis?

I have tried to gather all of the commonly referenced patterns on our site's garb page. Probably >90% of what people make and wear has a solid pattern listed on this page:

I'm thinking the page needs to be reorganized to make the information more accessible, but the links at the bottom, just before the video, pretty solidly cover garb-making for our sport.
