Such a nightmare on the Bel/Dag field. No matter how many times I tie, tighten, and pull up my 5ft long front and back straps they will not stay on me for more than 20 minutes while running and rolling around on the field. Maybe it's because I am horridly thin, but I much prefer my poof jester style pants over real hakama ment for Kendo or Aikido.

Mine are the traditional hakama, four 5 and 6 foot straps in the front and in the back, the straps are long enough to wrap around a sumo wrestler, very high quality tetron hakama bought from a Kendo/Aikido store. They are great until i start jumping or running, then the straps start to loosen or move up to my ribs while the hakama sag down. I thought about cutting the straps in half and using velcro to keep them in place.

Maybe if I sew belt loops onto the hakama so the straps can't move around... hmmm.. I love my poof pants more, but the hakama look nice for feast garb :3 so I'll keep em.

Sounds like the material is slick and is coming loose that way, tighten them very tight and tie your knot like this.

Image

The Hakama i make are all made of a Trigger like half canvas material that is super durable and threaded with carpet thread, also my ties are about 4 foot long, they aren't pleated at all and arent really Hakama, but a hybrid offshoot, but i don't see why yours wouldn't stay up when tied correctly and knotted appropriately.

I think it's cause I am thin, and as the knot slides up it just gets thinner til the knot is around my ribs and the hakama are sagging on my waist. >.> Clearly I need to put on some weight...

If your hakama are sliding around it's normally because you tied them wrong.

Am I the only one who can't get past the fact that what was just stated was 'pants made and used for fighting aren't good for fighting'?

Did you buy something made of of hyperslick polyester **** that some retard in a sweatshop in Asia thought would make awesome pants on account of extreme cheapness?

That would sure do it.

you do not know how to tie them, simple as that. They will never slide at all, even the cheap crap fabric will barely slide if tied correctly.

I tie them in the cross method demonstrated at most Aikido/Kendo events, however these are "tetron" hakama.. and I believe they fit the bill of hyperslick polyester **** that some retard in a sweatshop in Asia thought would make awesome pants on account of extreme cheapness.

I wear tetron hakama when I fight the only time they slide is if a knot comes loose. I own 2pair of black and a pair of white neither slide on me so I still have to say you might be tying them wrong. Can you describe how you are tying them? I might have a solution to your problem then.

Back ties go around front to tie in a temporary knot, then tie the front ones around the back, to the front again in a knott, the back straps that are tied temporarily will be moved down to go "through" the knot I just did, tying a knot between all 4 straps.

It never comes loose, they just gradually work their way up to my high-water stomach and ribs because that area happens to be thinner than my hips.

Dude, I'm probably just as thin as you and my hakis don't ever have problems. If you keep tying them around your hips and they move up to your stomach then cut it out. Einstein described insanity as repetition of the same action under the same circumstances with the expectation of a varying result. You, sir, are definitely insane. If they keep moving up to your stomach do what I eventually did and start tying them around your stomach to begin with. It works, they don't move, and they fit fine.

Try tying them near the most narrow part of your waist not around your hips. Put the top near the line that transects near your belly button.

This.

In fact, that's where Hakama are traditionally MEANT to be worn.
