Emblems on belt flags / banners?

Postby Mors » Thu Mar 31, 2011 12:57 pm

What in your opinions are the best way to go about putting emblems on belt flags and banners?
Acrylic? Fabric Paint? Embroidery?
Also, I have 3 sewing machines, 1 is digital, how could I make a patch type look with my emblems? Because if there is a way, I will do that.
Also could I use the non digital machines to do the same?

My emblem is fairly simple. If anyone knows any information about these kinds of things. Please help me out. I agreatly appreciate it.

Fabric paint or embroidery are the 2 ways I have done it. Embroidery looks better but I am lazy so fabric paint is my default go to method.

Ok embroidery.
But how would I go about it?
If I want to use a non digital machine?

All my embroidery is hand stitched. I have heard tell of embroidery machines, but I hear they cost lots.

I think Ora and Starr both have embroidery machines....there was a post recently from Ora about making sashes and such. You can do a quick search for post by Ora.

Right, but 4.00 + s&h will get expensive for say 20 sashes.
I would like to be able to make my own so I can stock pile them.
Or make them when I need them and have them ready when I need them.

Options...

1. Arrakis put up a tutorial on applique technique, you could totally do that. It's on these forums, just search it.

2. Paint- Get some 81/2x11 printer labels. Print off the pic. Cut out with xacto blade. peel backing and put onto cloth. Paint carefull so you dont pull up the corners. Easy paint mask. Let dry and remove sticer. Win.

3. Pay me to do it, I have an air brush, and the means to make teh stencils :)

4. Embroidery...very spendy no matter how you look at it. It either take a fair amount of money or time.

I don't know if your digital machine can do it, but what you basically want to do is get a pattern and digitize it in the format that your machine will recognize. The manual or manufacturers website should tell you what is necessary if it is even possible.

You can also just charges the members of your unit for the sash. That is what we do because we keep about 10 on hand at any point and time. If they lose their, they pay to replace it, and they pay to get it in the first place. Oh also, if they lose they also have to be camp * for a weekend. :)

What is a reasonable price for the sashes to charge your own unit?
Do you paint on yours? Or embroidery?

Just out of curiosity, why do you need 20 sashes?

Also, 5 bucks per is about as cheap as you're gonna get, considering the work/materials/machine usage involved in making them.

I've already started having Ora make me one, they look quite amazing.

Because I am able to recruit that many within 2 months or so.
1 practice... (1 sunday) I recruited 5, and I did not even recruit, they came up and asked me.
Not only that, I am going to be starting a Dark Templars' practice on Saturday at a seperate park. "Attention......." I can make my own, was curious on how cheap cu sith sells theirs.

*shrugs* Might wanna make sure they stay before buying all those.
That's just an idea, though.

Exactly why I created my own unit. Run it how I would like.
The thing is, is I have 3x the ranks an average unit has and a Simple way to keep track of it.
(Not only with symbols, beads, badges.)
But, the ranks make it where you "improve yourself".
The more you improve yourself, the more rewards / bonuses / ranks.
Simple enough.
I just want to be able to have it handy.
I may make embroided flags or buy them for the "loyal active members".

As far as unit practices:

Make sure that you continue to attend the full realm practices so that everyone's skills continue to scale with the local group. Unit practices on an alternate night are a good idea, though.

Definately. I was not only wanting to get a practice to recruit. I wanted an "extra" practice. Because one practice a week does not really do what practice is supposed to do. 2 practices a week = learn faster and more fun.
1 practice a week = wait all week, play, learn as much as you can.
Look at it like Football. I played for 9 years, "Safety", and our team would not have been as good as it was if we only had 1 practice a week. I suppose.

Yeah I only charge what it costs me to have the sashes made. I am not trying to make a profit from unit sashes. To me, a unit sash is something to worn with pride, so that is why losing it makes you camp * for a weekend event. Hell don't lose it at a big event...lawd help you! On that same note, $5 a sash is really, really cheap!

If you are going to run you own unit, and I am happy to help with any and all questions, do you self a favor and charge dues, and keep a separate checking account with access to PayPal....this is the best tip I can give. After years of getting frustrated and putting my own money out there for stuff, I finally did this and man has it resolved more of my stress with the unit.

Yea, either make a seperate paypal or you can just keep track of who put what in. Thats what I do on my gaming clan site.

(Site is not finished yet, and most members go on the forums anyways)
I have to create a specific forum addon to that site, but that will happen once I get everything situated with Dag / Bel. :)
