Garb Question

Postby Mors » Thu Apr 07, 2011 9:46 am

I have some fur, and I was curious on what is the best way to add it to my garb without having to sew it into the garb itself? (I would like to be able to wash my garb).

I was thinking making a fur bracer (not armour) but decoration for my weapon hand, since I am sword / board.

I am about making a padded cloth bracer for my board fore-arm.

How can I add my other fur to my garb to make it look barbaric?

I appreciate it.

That's pretty tough without adding it to the garb itself. You can always use it to decorate accessories like belt pouches and that sort of thing. THat way you get some fur in without attaching it directly to your garb.

Out of curiousity, why the cloth bracer for your shield arm?

Because my sheild is around 10 lbs, strap shield.
The straps after 5 hours or so of play dig into my arm and bruise it up a bit.
Since I do the same thing every sunday, the bruise is not going away.
Not to talk like I am big or bad, but I am pretty good at blocking with my shield.
Even with it's weight. But the movement makes my leather straps slide up and down (saw like motion) on my fore-arm.
Making the bruise.

Is there a way to wash garb that has fur attached to it?
I also have an awesome idea for armour.
That will have fur added to it. So I may just add it to accessories since I will have it on my armour, when I get the armour.

I am also going to be wearing my mma wraps on my hands with gloves over them, because my left hand "middle finger" knickle is all kinds of **** up.
(From my using my shield alot) When I move a finger around in a circular motion from my right hand onto the back knuckle of my middle finger on my left hand. It sounds as if there is some kind of bubble wrap or plastic bags rubbing together. (Which does not sound good.) :P

Also, how would I add the fur to my belt? and other items?
Just wrap it around? Sew it? I want it barbaric. :D

I am no expert in adding fur, so I'll leave that to someone else.

As for the Arm wrap I can see that. I like to have my hand grip part of the shield nice and tight so I add a couple layes of blue foam between my hand and the shield back. I also run some foam down the length of where my arm rests, but not as much. I want the hand grip part fiarly tight but the forearm start a little looser, so I control the facing of the shield with my hand, and can still easily drop it if it gets broken.

As far as washing with the fur on, I would say hand washing would prolly be the only way to not * it up, but again, I don't have anything with fur, so I don't really know, only speculating on that.

I am the same way with my shield. Ok, I will wait until somone helps me with fur tactics on my belt and what not. I will pass on hand washing. :P That is about 30min of work that I could be doing something else with, while the washing machine washes it... :P (In the process of building many swords, covers, and repairing my javi.)

attach the fur to straps that criss-cross across your chest and back and clip on to your belt. it will look like it's part of your tunic/shirt. but you can wear it over whatever you'd like, or with no shirt at all.

I figure I am going to wait until I get my armor finished. Then I can work with that instead of the garb and then I can work on barbaric looking garb in general without the fur since I will add it to my armour "maybe".
Thanks though.

You could try velcro?

Sewing fur onto something is pretty easy, my roomate has two white faux fur panels from Joann's sewn onto the shoulders of his tabbard. You may need to use a certain stitch to make it stay.

You'll need to be careful cutting the fur and sewing it cause it's going to shed like crazy.

One way to do it would be via snaps. You put one half on the fur, the other on your garb where you want the fur. Snap on, snap off, wash, snap on. SImple and easy. That way you could also do it with your armor, snap it off of your garb and onto your armor when you are wearing it.
