Hmm. True. But it is my new kit for the coming Bel season. I suppose I could always photoshop a derpy sword in.

As someone who fights in the mid atlantic region, in mostly Darkon and some Dag, can one of you fine folks from Bel explain the belt braids to me?

When I started fighting people suggested that I make braids to 'monsterfy' my garb a bit. I now use them for another layer to help add to making it difficult to range my legs, not to mention that peoples weapons get entangled which I can take advantage of.

braids are also sometimes used as a token to trade between fighters. i believe kraylose has a bunch of braids from other people and I know others (including myself) how have some too. i'm not sure where they originated from except monster culture. any older fighters want to shed some light on war braid history?

The more seasoned the monster, the more braids. It's basic science.

Some guys from back east though it looked cool about 10 years ago.
It didn't, but it caught on becasue of who they were. Now the "cool kids" that think they are "monstery" wear them. These are the same people who feel this is part of "monster" culture, and I guess it it for those hippy monsters.
I personally have only ever worn 4. Stolen from people I like. But I stopped wearing them years ago becausee it's trendy as skinny jeans. Basicly the equivalent of black rimmed glasses or a knit hat with a brim. Hipster stuff.
Real monsters are not trendy.
This is merely my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

And so it goes to show that they have no real meaning and only mean whatever they mean to whoever thinks that they mean something. Just like anything else in monster culture.

Exactly. Ya know, that's a term that I've never understood.
Monster Culture. Weird Idea, man.
I mean, Orc's are an established thing in many different literary sources. So we picked Orc stuff from any of the sources we wanted, but it's all orcs stuff.
Same thing with the other mosters. The background os out there, that's how people first heard about it and got the idea to be one.
But this "monster culture" that has cropped up in Bel is just made up nonsense. And the really wierd thing is kids trying to tell me how to be an Orc. I'm THE **** Orc.
I guess this is part of my pushing monsters to move into movie quality kits and look more like Monsters then they have previously.
I haven't taken this as seriously as I should have in the past, but you're going to be seeing alot more green forkbeard.

Let's be clear, here.
I am not knocking anyone's choice in garb here. I am just talking about a fashion thing. Warbraids did not start showing up until years after I started fighting. I watched them first show up, then spread around the country, then become a staple of alot of peoples garb. Many of you started fighting after they had already become part of our scene and probly feel they are an integral part of your wardrobe. Thats fine. They are legal garb and don't look aweful. I got's no beef with them.
They are simply not my style and have never looked like something a monster would wear, to me.
So don't get all offended.

I have always thought of them from any stand point as braids of hair that I have taken from the head of someone. Cloth lasts longer than hair does so I why not use that.

^ nice.

I've always used them as one per event, however, like Spike said: Eventually you just run out of belt-space. Thus why I throw them on loops on my actual garb. Once you get over 20-30 it's just.. ridiculous.

That explains them never taking off in Darkon, we have an event every other Sunday. We'd all look like hippie hula girls in 3 years. By now after 12 and half years of Darkon, I'd look like a sniper from the waist down... lulz

As Acorn said I have a number of braids that i got in trade from other monsters. I consider them symbols of friendship and such. I like the look of warbraids, have approximately 80; 50 on one belt alone and often add trinkets and such to them. plus they have come in quite handy during a certain slave gathering at Chaos Wars where a certain Valkryie kept attempting to flee and we needed to tie her up.

And I do feel that monster culture needs to continue to improve. Reaching a higher level of quality in appearance is something all monsters should strive for. Its something im working on, taking it slow because I am having to create everyting for myself from scratch.

Well, that weapon is obviously not Bel legal. But everything in that kit, except for the latex mask and the skin paint, have been tested on a Bel filed. I specifically designed it to withstand Bel standards. It does not impede my movement. I can wear it comfortably. It is not terribly hot. And mostly does not impede my speed. I'd like it to not do so at all, but....extra thirty pounds or so of leather

The armor is pretty cool, granted. But I personally wouldn't consider that a great kit. It's just store bought armor on top of some black pants and gambeson. There is no real personality or creativity at work there, just a wallet. Not saying that's bad, not all of us can do that, just not a kit done right, IMO.
