Horses!

Postby Ticonderoga » Wed Sep 28, 2011 9:06 pm

Hey I was looking through the board and I was wondering if you guys would allow horses on the field? the reason I ask is because im getting a Friesian I think it is. It's a pretty large horse and I felt with my new Nazgul Style robes that im also getting I think it would be cool if I could ride a horse onto the field and I know not a chaos wars because I saw on the newbie guide "No pets allowed" but at a different event. just saying dont want to make anybody irritated or anything. oh and did you guys see that chariot racing stuff?

Actually, Chaos is the only event that I know of where horses have been brought in. The only instance of that was when Morwen brought hers and shot people down with her bow from horseback. Apart from that, most events have neither the facilities nor the space to really facilitate bringing a horse. Even then, I'd say that a very, VERY small percentage of the Belegarth population owns horses and of those folks, few would be willing to take them to an event.

If you honestly think that a horse would tolerate getting hit without kicking and wounding someone so badly that they might never walk again (or do anything), you're retarded.

No, no horses on the field. Morwen used her horse in one very specific thing, which was fenced in and set up as a controlled situation.

And the owners of the site have horses and offered to let her, so yeah, when you're a guest of the site owners, you get **** exceptions.

I would say no, you will likely never be allowed to use a horse at any event. Morwen does all sorts of amazing super cool super human stuff on the daily anyways. She practices real mounted archery and set up a special demo of mounted archery at Chaos. She had to get special permission from the site owners to do it.

It's cool you're getting a horse. Please never never attempt to use it with Belegarth ever.

So I am kinda wondering...are you really young, like 14 or something? I don't understand the thought process here...or lack thereof, and I am a pretty stupid horse owner that has done some pretty stupid dangerous things with horses, but this one is actually guaranteed to kill people in real life.

I am hoping that you are just young and inexperienced with horses, because otherwise I think your new horse is going to land you a Darwin award fast. Sorry if you are just a kid, I truly don't mean any harm. Don't get me wrong, I think all medieval horse people would love to do combat with horses if we wouldn't kill all of our friends on day 1.

yes im young im 14. and i have only ridden a horse once and that was only at a walk so i guess i am inexperienced. i wanted to get the horse to the point where you could fire a connon next it's ear and it wont flinch so i could use that in battle like cavalry but i see its dangerous and we dont own a cannon, we own a potatoe gun.

Admirable goals for a horse. Most never get there. Just remember that the process of getting them used to canon or whatever "bad stuff" means many instances of rearing, bucking, spinning, and kicking until they finally decide they don't care enough to be bothered by it.

I used to train my horse to be less afraid of gunfire with those little gunpowder poppers (aka snappers, bang-snaps, ect). :P He doesn't shy from guns/trains/machines/fireworks, but most people have a good chance of being killed trying to make your horse less gun shy. Look up Youtube horse training videos by Clinton Anderson and avoid the fluffy stuff that teaches you your horse is your friend that loves you...bla, bla, bla...I never see anyone pull that crap off in real life.

yeah I did think there would be alot of bucking and stuff so I kinda thought train it young maybe start with a airsoft pistol then pop gun and work it up to the potatoe gun and when I want it to be ok with swords I'd fight with him on like a belt or something when he's young and cant really fight to hard against me. yeah I just kinda confused myself.

The number one thing you want to think about is safety -even IF you had the best trained horse in the entire world and it wouldn't hurt anyone, do you really want your horse getting bashed for hours on end by people? Padded weapons or not? Think of the well-being of the horse first, you're medieval pursuits second.

yeah I WAS gonna build some crude lether armor for him hoping for a little bit of protection. and maybe some real soft stuff under so it don't hurt him but I suppose your right Rocca. It doesent really hurt me but I'm not a horse so I wouldent know how It really feels but i think Jousting would be alotta fun at wars with some real good padded spears or just having sword fighting events on horses. (horses not targets thats called animal crulety *he says in a childish voice*)

Full force jousting, even with padded weapons, is brutal. I have a friend that jousts for ren faires and, even through their stuff is scripted and the lances are DESIGNED to fail on contact, he's taken a few into his chest where it didn't fail as quickly and, through steel armor and gambeson, he ended up with a purple bruise about 4" in diameter. Food for thought.

NO! NO HORSE FIGHTING! NOT NOW, NOT EVER. Just wanted to make sure that went through. NO. Do not do it. Do not try it. Try to train your horse to do normal horse stuff. This is your first horse and you've never really ridden a horse. Don't **** around or be stupid and for gods sake DO NO TRY ANY KIND OF FIGHTING on, with, to, using, from and or anything with your horse.

Horses are very calm creatures. It makes me wonder if we should even call them animals. I would say to start training your horse, you should stand behind it (so it can't see you and get all worried) and start hitting it full force with Boffers. Then jump on the back of it, and start firing pistols into the air and whooping like a bandito. This works. Do it now.

[Edit] Don't actually do this. This is horrible advice given in farce. I don't want Belegarth or myself being held responsible for your chest getting caved in/neck broken
