Stenciling Shields

Postby Teej » Mon Oct 10, 2011 5:57 pm

So I have 8 shields to do; I'm using poster board to stencil our logo with acrylic on trigger fabric. WTB criticism and protips - attempt #1 ain't cutting it in my opinion, though that may change in coat 2 or 3...

You might have less "bleed" under your stencil if you use a thinner stencil (paper) and spray the back side with spray glue. Let the glue dry and it becomes "tacky" and will partially adhere to the fabric, allowing for easy removal.

If I were doing it, I'd lay that stencil on top of green fabric and trace all of the snakes with fine chalk, press that fabric onto a Steam-A-Seam interfacing backing, cut them all out, press (with an iron) them on to the shield cover, then go around them all with a medium-sized satin stitch. Permanently sexy shield cover = awesome. Perfect edges also = awesome.

Similarly with white fabric for the skull.

This shield cover I did for a guy with Helm's symbol from the Forgotten Realms on it.
