Thank you Arrakis, I really appreciate the input, you actually have given me some idea's for modifying my t-shirts. I would also love to see your garb, because we can never have too many resources.

Also, I would LOVE that pattern. I've been trying to gather more middle eastern garb for myself.

I'll send you my Middle Eastern Garb folder.

Can I get that too? A lot of the pieces cross over to women's clothing too, and I'm working on my turkish getup based off of this woman's patterns: http://13costumes.livejournal.com/7335.html#cutid1.

I happen to really like Sir Plithut's garb. There is only one outfit where I can clearly see the tee shirt he is wearing, and if I didn't know that he was wearing one under some of that garb I would have never noticed.

I as well; I'm always into filling out my Persian/near east folder, especially given the theme for this upcoming Chaos. (PM sent.)

Plithut, I think your garb is pretty rockin. I've never had a chance to study it closely, but you've always stood out at Chaos as you walk around.

Also, and I could totally be wrong here (a quick Google search wasn't very helpful), but my instinct would be to give a pass to the vests. Though they are "fairly modern" looking, my recollection is that the hobbits in LotRs dressed like little British people.

Good on ya. You, unlike many fighters and garbmakers I've met, understand that there's more than one culture in Western Asia (nickel for every time I've seen someone say that they want to be Persian but end up using Turkish and Arab clothing and accessories in a weird kit *), and that just because something is foreign does not make it garb.

I dig on everything but the tuxedo vests... They really take away from it for me. Color of them work, i just can blatently tell what they are it annoys me. Never would i say you are out of garb or against the spirit of the rules its just my one thing i don't like of the look. Might be the fact they are a shiney material and seem syntethic to me dirty um up some and i think they will fit the rest of the look a bit more.

I will say i **** love you pants though, simple stripe pants like that is just amazing sweet looking, It takes a simple part of garb people always over look and make it awesome. Where do you get your fabric for them or do you just sew them all together.

Varadin - The white vests are something that will probably get covered over the years, I just haven't had the time yet/motivation to modify more than they already are.

As to the pants; the black/yellow pair as well as the white/cream colored pair I picked up at a renne fair that I worked for. The white/orange striped paints were fabric that I picked up from Hancocks, it was an outdoor patio furniture role of fabric on sale. The white/gold is homemade, I picked up a gold table cloth from goodwill. I also picked up a matching white cloth from Joann's. I then spent too much time making stripes.

I doubt you will ever catch me in a traditional tunic, that being said, Arrakis has gifted me with huge resource of garb ideas and resources that I have been looking for recently. I hope, in time, to have a happy medium, and be rocking like its some weird far off fantasy realm in 1600.

Disclaimer. Stripes look cool, but take a long time to assemble.

Pdiddy I've always thought you have some of the most legit garb in the game. We need to make some together this year I really want to bounce ideas off of each other.

The fact that something/someone can be outed because of stupid things is very discouraging. If people keep falling into this fad of being overcritical I only see in causing problems for the sport.

Maybe people need their mommy slap em on the * a few time to make em quit acting like little bickering children.

Tiberius, your word choices have proved yet again to be unnecessary, offensive, narrow minded, and poor in general. Was there a reason you felt it necessary to put that much emphasis on how "low" homeless people are?

Didn't see the second page until after I posted.

But forget that. I'm worried. Are you okay Arrakis? I only ask because there must be something really **** about your life for you to care about all the little nit picky things you do this much. You seem so set on having everything be "bad" or "wrong" all the time. So I guess my question is, do you have a reason for having this negative, elitist attitude?

I want to make it clear that I have no interest in arguing or having a bashing contest. I am genuinely concerned for you, and the effect of your attitude on other people.

Re-reading everything and looking at all the pictures I could find really helped me grasp most of what to do. I'm only a little lost on the strap concept, but I think I mostly understand it. You make the strap(s) and put on the sleeve(s), then connect them both in the front. Correct?

There is a single connection in the front, I do bottom to bottom single piece, straight across. Then, after connecting the front of the sleeves together, I put an 'x' across my back, from top of one shoulder to the bottom of the opposing sleeve on each side.

On the subject of not liking traditional tunics this shirt works well for me. It's comfortable and moves nicely, the gathered shoulders fit nicely too. I left the gathered cuffs and neck off and, while I thought the wide open cuffs would get caught with a sword this has yet to happen, and it looks all neat and flowy. Easier to make than a gusseted tunic too.
