Modifying Padded MMA Gloves

I love to punch block and own a pair of padded MMA gloves which look blatantly modern so I decided to throw some scrap cloth and paint on 'em to help at least cover them up a little bit.

Nice work. I keep putting off modifying mine, saying "well, I'm going to get gauntlets soon, so I don't need to put time into these". I still haven't gotten around to those gauntlets...

It took me all of 20 minutes to do. Dap, random scrap cloth and fur, add some stitching to reinforce the contact cement and you are done. Get off your lazy buns and step your game up!

P.S. Not shown, white claws painted onto the finger portions.

my only warning to anyone wanting to repeat this trick is to make sure you use the smaller version of the grappling gloves. There is a second, somewhat heavier version, and the larger ones will make it nigh on impossible to hold anything.

Bear, remind me at Chaos Wars to give you a beer. I have always wanted to see more people do stuff like that with their safety equipment. Good work.

I actually don't have much difficulty holding weapons/shields at all with these gloves. The reason I opted for the heavier duty ones was for the increased knuckle padding which works out well. I mean, I'm not punch blocking reds but they work well against blues and the like.

Nice.
They look a lot better than MMA gloves alone. But they are still real bulky looking. I wish there was a way to get the protection without the bulk.

I've seen people make some pretty wicked viking style leather gloves with ensolite in between the layers of leather (both layers were 3/16"). They weren't as flexible as MMA gloves, or even clamshells, but they gave them pretty great all around protection, with a legit historical look.

If you want good protection for your hands that bulk is going to save your thumb from being broken. I stepped up from MMA gloves to lacrosse gloves (even bulkier) and no longer have finger jams or broken fingers. I've spray painted them black to tone them down a bit. Next step will be to add fur like bear did. Love it!
