New Technology Test: Video

Postby Sir Cairbre » Thu Apr 05, 2007 11:28 am

Yesterday a new technology was implemented on the board.

After the change, if you choose to not "Disable HTML in this post" you can post; object, param, and embed tags in our forum. What are you talking about? well I will put it this way. The embed code that is on Youtube for video's now works inside our forums.

We will keep this new technology on a temporary "try" basis over the next 30 days, ending on May 5th. If things don't work out or their are any abuses of these tags, serious repercussions may occur, not limited to the disabling of this function or the banning of users accounts.

Quick Guidelines for posting video content and other embedded content on this website during the 30 day trial:

1. Post nothing that would receive an R or higher rating from the MPAA as an embedded video, image, or audio.
2. Do not post anything illegal, specifically you doing something illegal. (we don't want to wind up in that legally responsible for turning you in to your local authority like we hear about all the time in the news).
3. Do not post anything explicitly copy written, I.E. a ripped version of the newest movie in theaters.
4. Do not post code that takes over the page beyond showing something in the body of a message.
5. Refrain from posting banner ads.

Quick Tutorial:

1. Stop and think, will this video or code be offensive? if it would then probably you should refrain from posting it.
2. Goto your favorite youtube.com video... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtDswaa6sX4
3. Click on the text field next to "embed" and copy that text in that field to your clipboard(CTRL+C on a PC).
4. Then simply paist (CTRL+V on a PC) that code in the Message Body of a post. Make sure you click on "Disable HTML in this post" to make sure it is not checkmarked.
5. Preview your post to make sure it works correct by clicking the "Preview" button.
6. If all looks good click "Submit" to post the embeded object.

Here is an example of the technology at work:
Code: Select all
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QtDswaa6sX4"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QtDswaa6sX4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

Video:
<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QtDswaa6sX4"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QtDswaa6sX4" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

The video doesn't show up. What is wrong?

Assuming that you are using a supported flash browser with a flash plugin installed: Most likely it is if you have ever edited your profile on the board their is a yes or no question "Allows allow HTML" if you have that turned to "No" you will not be able to see this posted content. To fix this problem click on your profile link at the top of the page and select "yes" for the option and submit your changes.

I don't want to see posted content:

Do the reverse of the above statement.

I think this functionality no longer works with the new board... might want to un-sticky and lock this thread.

There's a new code for YouTube videos, so I'm making a new sticky.
