Pretty sure they're a bot...their sig line has links to stuff that didn't look like fighting stuff (at first glance)...

This isn't a realistic solution, unfortunately. It would require forcing everyone to log in each time they visit the forums (instead of saving their login) and would put a noticeable extra amount of load on the server as GD would have to generate a new image every single time someone visited the boards.

Also, the bots are pretty good at breaking these captchas anyways. It's set to only allow two captcha attempts when registering and you see how many get through.

I modified the default style to allow for a Q&A captcha that shouldn't be solvable by bots. This should prevent the registration of new bots, but there are still some that are already registered and may come back and post.

Keep reporting them as normal and we'll keep deleting them.

I was bored the other day and counted this up. We have a little over 4,850 people registered. Of that, 3,262 have posted less than 10 times. 1,318 have never posted.

Is there an easy way to clean up those that haven't posted or haven't been on in a really long time? I don't know if we can tell how long the bots you've already deleted were registered, but god knows how many of the accounts who've never posted have been here for ages and could be bots.

Well, it would be fairly trivial to delete any account that has never posted, but the problem is there are a lot of people who have registered but never posted.

What about people who have never posted and haven't gotten on in x amount of time? Or have only gotten on a few times or even once. Do you have access to all that info?

I can pretty much guarantee that he does. The problem is where do you set the standard for active vs. not? I know people from my realm who signed up for the boards just as a placeholder for their fighting name. And who knows? Maybe they'll use it one day. It's tough to judge what to delete and what not to without stepping on people's toes.

Yep, Galya has the right of it.

The database doesn't have all of that info, but it does store the last login date.

Have most of the bots we've been dealing with been sleeping for long? Or do the make an account and post right away? If lots of them have been sleepers and we get almost no new bots maybe cleaning the database would have to go to WC as an option. Just my thoughts on the situation, but those bots are damned annoying. And I imagine you guys hate them more than I do since you have to get rid of em.

Eh, they are annoying, but they really don't hurt anything.

Deleting them (along with all their posts in one swoop) literally takes about 4 seconds from start to finish. It's going to be about a thousand times more hassle to figure out how to clean out the remaining bots that haven't yet posted.

Plus, this will risk deleting valid accounts, including any PMs, settings or group memberships these users might have.

IMO, it's really not worth the extra effort and time it will take. We can continue to delete them as they pop up, because the flow of new bots should be completely ceased as of yesterday.

Cool cool man. I suppose I'll just go back to reporten em when I see em. Glad to hear they aren't a pain to deal with at least. And I'm really glad to hear we shouldn't be getting any new ones.

Yep. It's entirely possible that the old bots won't even post, so there's that too.
