Anyone else getting

"Sorry, you cannot use the search function at this time."

When you click on view answered posts or unread posts or active topics or etc?

Yes, I am getting it too. Sometimes "view new posts" (which uses search) works. Other times it doesn't.

It has been going on since last year and is quite annoying.

I believe its a slight site-bandwidth saving measure. Just open a new tab, troll Facebook for a few minutes, and then it usually works.

Except that's what I've been doing. I come back to it in ten minutes, I get the same result. I come back in four hours, I get the same result. Kind of annoying.

The server that the board is hosted on is shared, so when the server reaches a certain point of usage, it disables non-essential functions, such as search, to prevent the whole system from slowing down. I don't know the exacts of it all (that's Derian's department), but that's the gist of it. Its sudden occurrence may have something to do with updates to the boards, but I couldn't say anything like that with certainty.

Mostly true, but not quite. The server is not shared (well, aside from some personal projects of mine), but the search function does disable under certain conditions to prevent load from spiking out of control. Mostly I just haven't had a chance to get in and figure out why the server is running so hot.

This also happens to me very often and it may be a contributor to why the boards have been so quiet for a while.

I would tend to agree. Without "view new posts", the process of checking new/updated posts becomes tedious at best. I know that about 85% of the time when I can't use that one function, I tend to say "**** it" and go do something else.

I adjusted some stuff that should hopefully make it more responsive.

It hasn't been an issue since I posted the last post. I think you may have fixed it.

EDIT: Nevermind. It did it again. Although, it regained the ability to access New Posts within 1 minute.
