Autoplaying video embeds, argh

I've noticed that embedded Youtube videos are currently set up to autoplay on the forums. All of them. Even if there's 5+ video embeds in a single post.

I find autoplaying audio/video to be really annoying, and I doubt I'm alone here. Can we perhaps get a setting to stop the autoplay?

That is not a setting on the forums, that is people enabling autoplay when they link the video.

Where's the thread you're talking about?

Um... all the threads? Or at least every thread I've seen so far with a Youtube link.

The sticky in Recruitment Ideas titled "How to Recruit" has five videos that all start playing at once.

I also clicked open a bunch of topics in the foamsmithing forum yesterday, and got an autoplaying video that I eventually tracked down to the red crossguard thread.

If autoplay IS an option that users have when posting Youtube links, I suspect it's defaulting to on, rather than off. Time for a little testing...

Hmm. Yeah. After a little bit of testing, can't get it to NOT autoplay. I'll leave my failed attempt at non-autoplay below.

Hmm, that's weird. So, it looks like what I had done was to hardcode autoplay=0 in the custom youtube tag I made to prevent that kind of behavior in the past.

Since then, YouTube appears to have changed the way they handle their GET parameters, which was causing autoplay=0 to do the opposite.

I've fixed it, and the videos don't autoplay any more.

Thanks Derian. I didn't even realize there was a way to prevent autoplay.

Hurray, glad to hear it, Derian :). It's annoying that the API changed, but at least we got that sorted out.
