ROCK CONSTRUCTION

Postby Angmarth » Wed Apr 25, 2007 11:09 am

What should be specified in the BoW for rock construction? Currently there are many loopholes. Let's discuss things here and I will put up a proposal in the WC forum when the next discussion period comes around.

Agreed for the sake of simplicity and keeping undersized rocks off the field.

I'll have to get more creative with how I make frisbee rocks, but that'll be part of the fun.

Just... since we're changing it anyway, I'd point out that you can use thread to sew them shut instead of using tape. So I would say made out of typical weapon construction foam (and possibly glue) covered in cloth held together by thread or tape.

And we should specify the bit about the minimum axis through the center of the rock should be at least 4 inches (unless we want to bump it up to 6, or something).

We COULD put in a rule that the rock must not be easily deformable to an axis of ____ inches through the center....

We could also clarify the fact that there cannot be protrusions/any-part-of-the-rock which can pass more than ___ inches through an _____ inch hole.

I would also put something in strongly recommending that all rocks be greyish or muted colors.

well no part of a rock should easily pass through the 2inch hole already. That rule already exists...

I'd like to see 4 inches on 2 different axi instead on all...

i just have a problem with the glue other than that you have it down.
glue makes the foam stiffer and i don't want some stiff peice of foam and glue hitting me in the eye.
do not hate those who kill you or feel less of those who you kill.
feeling proud is not as important as having friends around you.

I don't know about this. The current rock rules allow for some leeway in weapon design.

There will always be people who come to our sport and say something like "Can I make a shuriken/throwing knife/tomahawk/chakrum?" Currently the answer is "Yes you can, but it will only be head legal" And I think that's cool.

Sure there are loopholes, but they're there to allow creativity and flexibility.

Why four inches? Is this a realism arguement? You don't think a rock the size of a baseball to the dome could kill or incapacitate you? I have several chunks of granite that would love to make your aquaintance.

Is it just that you feel stupid when you get killed by a rock? Get used to it, this is a game where we play dress up and swing foam sticks at eachother. You should probably feel at least a little foolish all the time.

Or is this some kind of combat concern? Are you going to tell me, "Our rocks don't move like real rocks." Newsflash: None of our weapons move like their real counterparts Think for a minute about light reds that are built for speedy shield killing, or ten foot glaives that would weigh about 70 lbs if made of steel, or every single flail out there today.

Angmarth, I was under the impression that your realm doesn't allow rocks anyway, so why does it matter to you?

BoW wrote:1.4.9. Class 5 Weapons have a minimum diameter of 4 inches and are constructed entirely of foam, cloth and tape (coreless).

2 inch rule is not applied to a rock unless you are going by some unwritten rule. However, you could apply the 2.5" rule. And as the rule states it could be all axis, or one axis.

I must say currently you can build a class 3/5 with the current rules. Do you want a core less dagger made of nothing but foam, cloth and tape so it can also be thrown at the head and for being used to stab someone in the gut?

Why should rocks have a neutral color? Rock in real life can vary in color from location to location.

To expand on rowan's comment, the use of slings is banned as an entangling (ATM, pending ideas on weapon tassles) so we have to toss them by hand instead. Because of this, it looks and feels cheesy, but it is cheesed for safety reasons.

LOL Rowan, this is an OLD thread.

On a side note, while we do not allow rocks I will always be involved in discussions of this nature as it does affect me on a national level. 8)

You aren't one to talk:

Or do you agree that when it is a good topic it is ok to necro it rather than make 50 posts about it.
