Rule 1.4.2.3. and Other Inconsistencies

Postby The Great Gigsby » Mon Feb 23, 2009 9:33 pm

This has been brought up before, I don't know why it can't just be edited out.

BoW wrote:1.4.2.3. The maximum handle length for Class 2 Weapons is eighteen (18) inches or one-third (1/3) of the overall length, whichever is greater. This cannot exceed one-half (1/2) of the overall length.

It's technically impossible (in this dimension :wizzard: ) for eighteen inches to be greater than 1/2 of something required to be at least 48 inches. It's pretty obvious that this is just copy/pasted from rule 1.4.1.4.

Just change it to:

Are there any other typos or oversights in the Book of War that should be cleared up?

Lots. I'll try to find some time to dig some out.

The companion to the rule you just posted:

1.4.1.4. The maximum handle length for a Class 1 Weapon is eighteen (18) inches or one-third (1/3) of the overall length, whichever is greater. This cannot exceed one-half (1/2) of the overall length.

18 inches is ALWAYS going to be longer than 1/3 of a thing that can't be any longer than 47.999... inches long (48/3= 16").

The revision:
1.4.1.4. The maximum handle length for a Class 1 Weapon is eighteen (18) inches. This cannot exceed one-half (1/2) of the overall length.

Of course, the easiest thing to do would just be to say that the maximum handle length for any swung weapon is the original wording of 1.4.1.4/1.4.2.3...

Almost, Arrakis... except for quarterstaffs, which can be longer than 48" but are still blue. Exceptions to exceptions :).

Touche, Chicken.

I always forget the bluesword's retarded, inbred cousin, the Bel-Legal Quarterstaff.

Ugh, I can never understand why someone would waste 2 good swords worth of foam on 1 big ugly stick =P. No offense to anyone who uses a quarterstaff, but the day I see one used effectively I will be utterly amazed.

I think that quarterstaves can be effective, it's just that out their most deadly they just don't come close to sword and board in our game.
