While double-ended weapons aren't that important on the national field, I feel that it is important to have the BoW be as concise as possible for those who are building weapons. Presently, the rule for padding on double-ended weapons is misleading:

Quote:
1.4.6.2. Double-ended Weapons must have a minimum of 18 inches in length of padding covering each end in a cylindrical fashion. Both striking surfaces of this weapon must follow Class 3 Weapon standards for a Double-ended Weapon to be legal.

Based on the information I received here (viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39036), this is indicating that 18 inches of striking surface are required on each end. The way it is written right now, someone reading it could understand this to mean striking surface or haft padding. Accordingly, I would like to see this rule changed in order to make it more clear on the intended interpretation.

I see it as striking and haft, and would apply it that way on a national field. That's the way it IS written, not the way you WANT to read it.

Shrug. If you want it changed, get your rep to put a motion forward. We are in a Voting Period right now. I don't imagine you'll get much attention for it; simply because no one really builds quarterstaves except for newbs, but go for it if you really feel it's that important.

I just want the meaning of the rule to be clear - I really don't care if it remains the same or changes.

The way it reads, it seems to indicate that it's 18 inches which could be haft or striking, as Big Jimmy seems to agree on. However several people have told me that it has to be 18 inches of striking surface, such as Cyric's response on this thread... viewtopic.php?f=3&t=39036

You can have different sized haft/striking surface on each side as long as at least 18" are padded. I could have one side that has 17" of padding and 1" of striking surface and the other side 1" of padding and 17" of striking. Big Jimmy is right.

While I feel 1" of striking surface and 17" of haft padding would fail the hit test. That is correct. It is technically allowed.

One could also put an 18" striking surface at one end and 32" of striking surface on the other and no ono striking foam at all. I know this passes, I made one and everyone loves it.
