Hypothetical Rule Reading - Hand On Weapon

Postby Reverend » Mon Apr 28, 2014 1:23 pm

So, the question came up during a drunken conversation.

Here's the foundation.

3.7.3. Blocking a Weapon strike by laying a Weapon against a Target Area and/or Shield is illegal.

This is typically called "anvilling" in my experience. The idea behind it is that if you violate 3.7.3, you take the appropriate damage to the target area as though your weapon wasn't laid against it.

3.1.5. Hand(s) - Area below the wrist (exclusive). An empty Hand is a legal Target Area. Any Injury to the Hand is considered Injury to the Arm. A Hand on a Weapon or Shield is considered part of that Weapon or Shield.

Now we add in 3.1.5. If I put my hand (hand on weapon) on a target area and my hand is struck... Do I take the damage?

So you mean like, half-swording? I'd take it.

No, like, you throw a shot at my torso and I move my "hand on weapon" onto my chest and you hit the back of my knuckles.

Along the lines of placing my sword on the face of my shield when you throw a red shot.

Edited to add: A better example.

I lay my sword on my leg to intercept a blow. If the blow hits the sword, I lose the leg (or take armor mitigated damage). What happens if that same blow, in that same scenario, hits my sword hand?

I would say it would count like anviling. I mean if you had blocked far enough out to get the momentum of the shot stopped it would be a different story. I can't think of a time where I have ever seen someone do something like this, it would be to easy to roll off the block and into the target zone with the weapon.

In this scenario the hand IS the weapon. So if the hand hits the intended target area, so did the weapon.

Thirteen months... not bad.

Not great, but not bad.
