Re Motion: v2: Addition of 4.5.1.1.1. Template Checking Tips

Postby Akroth » Thu Jun 29, 2017 11:44 am

Proposed by Torix:
4.5.1.1.1 When checking a Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, or Class 4 weapon's tip, the template should be applied perpendicular to the end of the weapon. (ie: place the template flat on top of the end of the weapon.)

Does this rule mean that a template can no longer be used to check corners/edges of tips? If yes, how are we ruling that a corner/edge of a weapon tip is unsafe?

I assume this is meant to standardize tip checking so people don't force templates down onto tips, but its unclear to me how it's intended to interact with the existing weapon checking rules. Any clarification?

Is this somehow applicable to 4.5.1.1?
4.5.1.1. The weapon tip is exempt from the two and one-half (2 1/2) inch (6.35 cm) rule, rule 4.5.1, if the weapon has a semicircular tip with a minimum one and one-half (1 ½) inch (3.81 cm) radius.

If not, it shouldn't be a sub-item of 4.5.1.1.

Right now if you tilt the template every omni in the game probably fails. It is intended to bring checking in line with what we actually do, and standardize things across weapons checks.

If I'm reading right, the rule as proposed is only applicable to 4.5.1.1 - Weapons with semi-circular tips. Wouldn't be applicable to most omnis.

Would something like this pass under the new rule
(Blue = stabbing, black = striking surface)?

Not that this is something anyone would build, but if the only allowable check on a weapon tip is to place a template flat on top of it, then there is no allowable check on the corner/side of the weapon tip?

Excuse my silly questions, I over-analyse everything.

No it wouldn't because weapon checkers can fail things that are clearly designed to break the rules. Plus something that would need a top like that could never pass a hit test. I mean I get what yo are saying, but as things stood before this change there were very few swords you couldn't fail for something going through template.
