Strictly In-Character Interaction

Personally, I wear face paint almost everytime I fight. It helps me get into the character and into the right attitude. I have never had anyone make fun of me to my face but anytime you step out of the pack and look a little different you open yourself for ridicule. As long as you can take it in stride then go for it. Enjoy, make the game what you want it to be, and you'll have fun no matter what.

Oh, and I have never had anyone complain about paint getting onto swords.

we hit each other with foam sticks and act like we're medieval warriors. despite it being a hell of a lot of fun it is nerdy (i admit it) and just about everyone outside of it that i know makes fun on me constantly. most are my good friends and just do it in good fun, some yell "losers!" out of a car window as they pass by our practices. so pretty much, if ANYONE playing seriously mocks you for doing a character, then they probably need to find a new sport. but teasing will probably find you a lot. i get my share having garb that looks exactly like aragorn's.

as for the body paint. i personally wouldnt mind. itd be like blood smear and proof i killed you at least once ;)

The opinion that I have heard spread is, 'If you are going to Claim Drow background, look the part."

Rarely will you get people telling you how stupid you are if you actually look the part. In fact most will admire the time you take to do it... if you actually fight as well. If you claim drow heratige be sure to do it all the way.

dude, those photos are sweet. I definitely have to make it to Rag in addition to my trip to Geddon. Hopefully I can get the time off of work.

if it looks great people will probably be all like "woah, that's awesome"

the problem is, that it's hard to make something like that work and not look incredibly cheesy

well, at least not without spending a bunch of money

so... the moral of the story is, if you look cheesy you'll get made fun of

Dude, go for it, I remember when I saw a guy at ockfest painted bright red wearing some sweet armor, my reaction was total intimidation, then I hit him with a javelin. That removed some of the intimidation...

My persona is a Scottish mercenary captain, and i smeared warpaint on at Ragnarok, and people ran from me, and needlessly so, because it was my first battle and I lack quite a bit of skill. In some cases I found that people took my far too seriously, and gave me quite an advantage in intimidation. I would say it would be awesome for people to look more in character, but do it all out or not at all. Don't look like some guy in paint and garb, look like the evil hell beast that you character truly is.
