I found another of the original threads that was cross-linked in case people are confused.

Basically, a mafia-type game revolves around an individual or small group of players (mafia) trying to work together and survive to the end of the game while killing off all the other players (villagers/townies). They do this in two ways: one, by during each "night" choosing as a group a villager to murder, and two, by cleverly misleading the villagers during the day into lynching their fellow townsfolk. The villagers can only kill mafia by figuring out who they are during the day and lynching them, though they can lynch unsuspecting villagers as well as the mafia themselves if they make a mistake. The result, therefore, is debate, suspicion, pandemonium... basically, all the things we cherish.

Sometimes there may be townsfolk with special skills. The doctor (cleric for our purposes), for example, can go out each night and choose one person to "heal;" if that person was killed by the mafia, he heals them and they keeps playing to the next round. The cop (can't remember what our variation was on this one) can also sneak out at night, but to "investigate" another player to determine whether or not he or she is a part of the mafia. There are others, but they might not be used if numbers are low.

I've been working on that. I lost the link to the epic mafia flash that had the master compilation of rules, otherwise I would have had at least a dozen other ideas by now. The Doctor/Cop combo is pretty common, but I know there's more we could do with enough bodies.

How about grabbing Dr. Frankenstine to revive one person after 75% of the Non-Mafia is killed?
The dead vote on who comes back, and if Frankenstine is not dead yet, bits and pieces of all the dead have been stitched together. The head will be who has the most votes and they get a second chance at life.

Frankenstine might even die in the process as an explosion of machinery, struck by lightning and/or shot by Mafia, especialy because the revival must be done at night and in a thunderstorm.

Plus after a bit, the revived can go on a rampage that gets themself killed, with or without the possible death of someone else.
Same goes with that at night, the accidental wander into someone home and in self defence are killed.

This second life should be temporary and should last up to 1 or 2 days before the last day, If not killed, linched, or rampage death.

BTW, since the last game went dead, here is the role list and descriptions I used last time for the Belegarth-themed mafia:

Vhil, Iron Crown General x 1 (Godfather--Immune to night kill and investigation)

Iron Crown Soldiers x 3 (Regular mafia goons)

Madog, Iron Crown Usurper x 1 (I put this in as a joke, basically, it's a regular goon who has to try and get the Godfather lynched so he can become the Godfather)

Izareth, Horde Leader x 1 (Cult--every night, gets to select one other person to try and recruit them into the Horde, which basically becomes a third team. They may talk at night, but do not get kills, have to win by lynching. Was not informed of the fact that he shows as guilty when investigated, and has a 50% chance of dying if he tries to recruit a goon, 100% for the godfather, and in any case, attempts to recruit goons always fail.)

Horde Members x 0 (None to start with. Once you become recruited into the Horde, you retain any other powers you may have had, but may talk with other Horde at night, and your win condition becomes to lynch or recruit everyone else. Aka, hOrDe WiN! Once Izareth dies, no more members may be recruited).

Knights of Numenor x 3 (Mason group. These guys are on the town side, may talk at night, and have been told out of character that the other members are, in fact, innocent. However, they can be Horde recruited).

Kegg x 1 (Vanilla cop).

Medic x 1 (I couldn't think of a good name for someone who does a lot of this sort of stuff, but just a vanilla doctor).

I might be missing a role or two, it was a pretty crowded game. I wanted to give lots of people opportunities to have roles.

Do you intend to make it known who were what roles? I don't want to reveal mine because it could effect future strategy, but on the other hand I want to let people know just how well I commit to a role.

At least tell me that Juicer was Izareth, 'cause I think my constantly trying to get him lynched would be ironic and all too appropriate.

In terms of balance, though, three masons is probably too many for this size game.

For the record, telling what the roles are going to be beforehand is (in most games--some setups specifically require you to tell what the setup is beforehand) generally a bad thing--in fact, the less information that is known to the general public, the better. For example, why would you start out telling the town that there's a godfather, and the mafia that there's a mason group, and how many masons? Also, telling which specific advantages the godfather gets gives too much information to the town.

When I asked which roles you were going to use, I was asking more in terms of a "here's the sort of stuff I'm thinking about" rather than a specific list.
