So befor everyone gets out their poison pen to strike me down, I wanna get something clear. I want to do this right. I have heard many stories about people being werewolf jackasses, especially during the full moon. (NO WAI!) Werewolf is a monster just as much as the rest. I already have my plan for making the race of the werewolf/lycan a respectable one, but first I wanna hear what you guys think. So there it is, what do you think?

its impossible for anyone to give impressions of what it is your doing without you listing your ideas for how your gonna accomplish it. is the concept of it good? yeah. its as simple as having day and night garb or you can go more in depth with it, but what are your ideas for doing so and what are you looking to accomplish

That makes a lot of sense, I guess I should have taken that into consideration.

Well first of all no jackassery on the full moon, sure all the stories lead to werewolfs going nuts during the full moon, but lets face it you don't want to have people putting distance between you and them because they know you are going to be a jackass during the event. If they days of an event hall in line with an event I'm still trying to think of something to do. Maybe a competition, iunno that's a still in my mind.

Second of all there will be fight garb and leisure garb. Leisure garb can be what ever. Fight garb should be peasant clothes of earthy tones ripped up a bit and tattered, you should know what I'm talking about.

I wanna do some sort of paint on the skin. They have fur, but that would look pretty ridiculous let alone dangerous for reasons of heat exhaustion or worse heat stroke. Maybe, just some red teeth marks somewhere, again these are just ideas flying through my head.

That's what I have so far and I look forward to constructive criticism.

"Amen," Spike. "No" to the gloves and mask idea.

How about some form of organized "hunt" on full moon nights? Being inexperienced, I don't know how this could be done according to rules and what-not, but . . . just throwin' it out there.

My chosen race is a Werewolf, so I'm pretty interested in helping out.

That is a great Idea I hadn't thought about that.

i guess the first step is massin' all the current werewolf/lycans out there and see what they thing about changing a few things. Is there any good way of finding out? I'll see what I can find.

i still like the mask idea (if done well)
like outhro's goblin mask

but anyways, the "hunt" could be set up at night like an assassin tourney
people who want to participate can sign up as lycans v/ humans
the lycan with the most bites wins
the human w/ the most kills wins

if "bitten"(stuck with sword) by lycan...you become lycan
if "killed"(stuck with sword 'twice maybe') by human...you are dead (maybe have a res at troll where you wait 10 mins)

you may have to use headbands or glow rings/ sticks to denote who's playing

Outhro's goblin mask is very good, I'll give him that. However, if he didn't wear the mask over it then it would look very ****. This is not because the mask is poor quality, far from it. Loose mask edges or seams ruin the whole overall appeal of monster roleplaying.

This is why you see a lot of goblins who dye themselves doing all over. If someone just painted their face and hands then ran around without a shirt on, you'd be like "Who's the turd?"

Seamless enhances the illusion every time.

I like the little tournament idea, but I have to disagree with the mask, while I am sure it would look cool, there are fighters that don't like to fight with helms or anything that could block their vision. I still need to solve the "there are only a handful or less werewolfs in belegarth" problem. looks like i have to recruit people.

Alright, so perhaps a mask wouldn't be too bad. But I'd be worried about the construction. Like Spike said, I believe that loose edges would ruin the effect. That, and I'd be worried about a mask getting in the way of combat. A wolf mask might inflict my ability to fight properly.

I'm not saying the mask is a bad idea, I just wouldn't know how to make it . . . good.

I really like the assassin's tourney take on the idea. I think that would be a blast! If it were "bites," though, wouldn't the bitten humans have to join the lycans? Maybe this is something they would have to do temporarily until a human "cured" them somehow.

One hit from a Lycan: Bitten
Two hits from a Lycan: Dead

One hit from a human: Cured (if you're a turned human)
Two hits from a human: Dead

I dunno. This might be making things too complex, but I'm just brain-storming. That, and I'm not too sure how an assassin's tourney works . . . I had to ask Tex what it was. xD LOL!

Could be just a night battle with the lycans vs the humans. That'd be much simpler.

There is an extensive discussion on the Horde boards regarding shapeshifting creatures, that might offer somewhat of an insight.

Horde has shapshifters? I thought it was just goblins, mech goblin, and the various trolls.

The horde forum I'm referring to is the one regarding monsters in general, not the proper Horde forum. That's super secret and the likes of which scum such as you all shall never see. And no, we don't have were-anythings. Probably won't either as long as I have anything to say about it.

The one I'm referring to can be found here.

I didn't know that isn't the proper Horde forum. I'm guessing that this means that I could sign up for it too, since my character is a somewhat similar 'human'/monster hybrid.

Had I have known that, I would have signed up for it a long time ago. Any information about Japanese Yokai or other cat-monsters on that forum as well?

No. Just because it isn't the official Horde forum doesn't mean it isn't primarily populated by The Horde.

Something you could do with the whole Tournament thing would be to have the humans that are bitten become Lycans after the next night. So, if you are bitten on night 1, and you are not cured on night 1, then night 2 you cannot be hit by anything and night 3 you are a Lycan. Just my thoughts.

For those that haven't gotten the gist, which I could see, there's a difference between people who play horde races (especially when people familiar with the warcraft universe use that terminology) which in this game are usually simply called "Monsters" and "The Horde" which is a Belegarth unit. The monster forum is open to all (I'm in there, and I'm a stick jock through and through, I just like lore) and the Horde forum, which is open only to the unit.

actually the forum on here is called the Horde Win forum. but it isn't the business forum for the group. That is on a different board.

i dont think the point of this topic is to create a new night tourny. and i dont think a new tourny is going to make people think "hey, look its a werewolf." when they see you.

just saying, but if you want to try it out as a monster race i recomend looking into the knoll or kobald races as a refrence and look at http://board.belegarth.com/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=24087&p=327255&hilit=wolf+helm#p327255
and http://board.belegarth.com/viewtopic.php?f=107&t=25910&hilit=animal+helm
add a pelt and do the shaman thing. thats prolly the best way to go about it.

I think the problem with werewolves, is that according to common lore at some point you lose control of your consciencness.

That's very anti chillin.

At night at events people can chill around a campfire and be a goblyn, or a bug bear, or even an elf, and just chill and it's fine. But if you're chilling at night on a full moon and someone asks you if you role play, and you say "yah, I'm a werewolf." then.... well.... you're doing it wrong.

But if you play it up, you're just annoying, because you're going against the chill nature of night time at events.

It's a very rock and a hard place type situation.

Plus, games like the assassins tourney our voluntary, people volunteer to be marks, and generally are the only people playing the game. A werewolf trying to "turn" people wouldn't be able to follow this concept, and at some point you're gonna run into someone that really doesn't want to play your game and really suggests you turn around and walk away. I'm just imagining you coming up in the dark and striking Morbian with a sword when he's drunk, and the look he would give..... it scares me.

Oh Rather Large James. You wouldn't be able to see the look he gave you. Everyone knows Morbian, like Corey Hart, wears his sunglasses at night so he can watch you weave then breath your story lines.

But what Jimmy said. Don't push the blade on the guy in shades, oh no. Don't masquerade with the guy in shades, oh no.

I'm amazed at how many people bring up werewolf lore, or the want to play a werewolf character… but always point to ‘common’ werewolf lore as ‘freaking out during the full moon.’ A) ‘Common’ werewolf lore doesn’t require that werewolves freak out during the full moon. That is Hollywood werewolf lore. B) Who said anything about having to shape-change and or appear as a wolf…….ever. The most likely real world cause of ‘werewolfism’ (not to be confused with Lycanthropy) is schizophrenia. Last time I checked we didn’t have wards in mental hospitals devoted to those horrible, violent, shape-changing, cannibalistic schizophrenics. C) White Wolf Games has two, not one but two, off the shelf mythologies for werewolves. I haven’t read the nWoD stuff because well, I don’t like the nWoD… but the oWoD Werewolf: The Apocalypse lore is pretty good and can in the least point you toward other sources of reading for any ideas you may have. They even have lore for other were-creatures, werebear, LOLwereshark, werebird, etc. I’ve even played Eeach as a Ratkin in an oWoD game… the mindset is exactly the same as the Skaven… just different historical lore.

The knowledge of the internet is vast. In the five minutes of research that I did, here are some viable Belegarth werewolf concepts that I came up with.

1) Benedict, seventh son of a seventh son is cursed to always wear a family heirloom… a wolfskin belt. Upon is 21st birthday he begins to have horrible nightmares of killing people and eating their flesh and coincidentally at the same time the number of vicious animal attacks triples in his home town. You fill in the rest… but make sure it has a lot to do with depression, cutting yourself, and pining about your ‘lost humanity.’

2) Vargulf, a simple flanker with a thing for legging and leaving, i.e. culling the herd.

3) Thiess, a superstitious holy warrior with a thing for wolves. Start a unit called the Hounds of God that swears to eradicate all evil from your realm.

Garb suggestions are wolf-skin objects, belts, cloaks, boots, etc. But just one… you don’t want to be covered in wolf fur. And silver religious / pagan objects… pentagrams, crosses, crucifixes, etc, or Rye and mistletoe. Most of your roleplaying will manifest as repentance for your evil deeds and self-loathing. Personally I’d keep the self-loathing to yourself, or in journal entries and or forum posts in the RP forum as, well frankly, no one cares about how much you ‘hate yourself’ on the field.

If you want to go ‘above and beyond’ in the roleplaying… early in the morning be paranoid and talk about the nightmare you had the night before (but don’t be specific). Complain of headaches and being tired all of the time. Exert yourself to complete exhaustion on the field. And always be the ‘good samaritan’.

If you do end up picking some actual ‘shape-shifting’ version of a werewolf, make two completely different characters… one the ‘wolf’ and the other the ‘man’. Make sure that the ‘man’ character is docile and very non-violent; the perfect gentleman. And that the ‘wolf’ is ferocious and brutal. Make garb (no wolf heads, little fur, and specifically no tail) for each and roleplay each well. If done correctly, this could be pulled off… but I wouldn’t have the energy to do it… and I doubt many would. This is more or less Dr. Jeckel / Mr. Hyde... but as a wolf. If you choose to be 'the wolf' at night... I suggest something on the order of 'Teen Wolf' as to not be a buzz kill to everyone else.

Im not going to puote ^that^ But yes I got a lot of information about the race/curse depending on how you wanna put it. I have done numorous reports and papers on the mythical beast/evil curse. But I have not come across this World or Darkness. Im getting a look into it now, thanks.

But if you play it up, you're just annoying, because you're going against the chill nature of night time at events.

I already at the beginning of this thread said that one of the things I wanted to do was eliminate people being jackasses at night and on the full moon. At the same time, there is nothing wrong with getting excited or celebrating it with a voulentary competition, mostlikely between the werewolfs and maybe a few others. If we were to have a competition it would most likely be amungst the werewolfs.

if you want to try it out as a monster race i recomend looking into the knoll or kobald races as a refrence

A refrence to what? I'm not into a dictatorship or a monarchy.

i'm implying that there are many ratkin, knoll, or kobald players, if you want to know how to dress or how to portray yourself talking to them and looking up their races would be a good start.
how that is somehow translated into

I guess that comes to show just how unoriginal the concept behind 'being emo' is.

I'm about 2/3 the way through 'New Moon' the 2nd book in the Twlight series and it seems to be mostly based on a generized version of the oWoD werewolf game. The vampires in 'Twlight' are totally different... but it foreshadows werewolves of the WW fashion and follows through about half way into the 2nd book.

Now don't get me wrong... I've had to work on getting there. Where the first book was good for a teenage girl focused romance, the second suffered from an overly dramatic goth-girl post breakup self destructive thought focus for the first 250 pages. But all the foreshadowing kept me focused enough to wade through it and get to the cool werewolf stuff.

Reading all the Native American tribe / werewolf pack relationship stuff got me thinking that the 'Hounds of God' unit idea pared up with a knights trial like title of 'werewolf' but keeping it secret, where it is almost a cult like entity within the unit, would be a good way to go. It puts some people in the know and that you could talk straight to about 'wolf things' but at the same time keeps you from looking stupid to the public at large because the 'who is who' of the 'werewolf community' is a tightly kept secret. Telling werewolf legends around the fire during the nightlife becomes a sort of oral history and also keeps it in the context of 'legend'. 'Werewolves' then become mentors for the group which would split up into 'packs' of 4 to 6 members each lead (theoretically) by a werewolf. This also allows you to be exclusive... kicking members that cannot keep their mouth shut and all the cool info on the DL out of the group.

Just some more thoughts on how to do werewolves in Belegarth. Hope this helps. xD

I will always remember that for a moment I thought so many things were possible.
