Belegarth Mafia 5 - Day 4 - Game Over, Werewolves Win

Postby Galya » Mon May 09, 2011 4:26 pm

Hi all,

This is the official thread of play for the fifth game of Belegarth Mafia. Please, if you are not playing, do not post in this thread. Start another thread to ask your question, or send me a private message. If you are not in the game and you post in this thread, I will delete your post without reply. Not trying to be rude, but the game has to be kept separate.

Players, please read all of the rules carefully. These will be enforced to keep the game fun and fair for everyone. Please don't make me call you dead for breaking the rules . . . and remember, don't edit your posts! Ever! I will know if you do!

Scene:
The setting is a small Victorian-era village, and you fourteen are the only living survivors of a vicious werewolf attack that had befallen your precious home just days earlier. The main pack has moved on, but some of your own have been bitten, and it is crucial that you (as Villagers) figure out who is a threat to your safety as a human being, and who is not.

Werewolves, your objective is to (obviously) fool the silly humans into thinking you are one of them, and then eat/butcher them all before they figure it out.

Players:

Alive:
Bevin - Werewolf Sibling
Zwei ap Owen - Alpha Male Werewolf
Caleidah - Innocent Sibling

Dead:
Big King Jimmy - Villager, Werewolf Kill, Night 1
Juicer - Villager, Hunter Kill, Night 1
Azgarehta - Werewolf, Lynched Day 1
No'vak - Villager, Werewolf Kill, Night 2
Giggles - Detective, Werewolf Kill, Night 3
Outhro Youkker - Villager, Hunter Kill, Night 3
Oisin - Villager, Lynched Day 3
Horati OTFH - Hunter, Werewolf Kill, Night 4
Koom - Villager, Lynched Day 4
Guts - Doctor, Killed in Endgame
Torberto! - Villager, Killed in Endgame

Game format:
This version will be similar to the last game:
3 Werewolves (Mafia)
1 Detective (Cop)
1 Doctor
1 Hunter (Vigilante)
8 Villagers

There also may or may not be an extra role or two sprinkled in there for fun. But everything posted here is correct, promise.

You should receive your role messages within the next few hours.

The game will start on Night 1.

Role overview:
Werewolves - Basic Mafia role, out to devour the town without being discovered.

Alpha Male – investigates as Villager by the Detective.

At night, the Werewolves may talk privately amongst themselves in any fashion they like (Only at night! No private conversations during the day, please!). Once per night, they, as a group, select one of the poor Villagers to kill. That person dies in the morning.

Detective - He may follow one other Villager each night, and by morning, has figured out whether they are a snarling shapeshifter or an honest townsman. Any knowledge gained this way is guaranteed to be accurate. The detective is a member of the town and wins when all Werewolves are eliminated.

Doctor - The town doctor. He may guard one other Villager each night. If that person is attacked, then he valiantly rushes to the rescue and saves his wounded neighbor from otherwise certain death. He may also hunker in his house with the door barred and protect himself like a true coward. The doctor is a member of the village and wins when all Werewolves are eliminated.

Hunter - The village's resident marksman. This player has the silver bullets to target one suspected Werewolf per night. Due to some prior...issues with his favorite weapons however, the Hunter's accuracy is not quite what it used to be, and thus his kill attempts only have a 50% chance of success. Also, to avoid suspicion, he cannot target the same person two nights in a row. The Hunter is a member of the village, and wins when the Werewolves are all dead.

Villagers - The rest of the village's terrorized occupants. You must use your vote to kill Werewolves during the day and avoid being killed off yourselves.

RULES - (That I admittedly stole from Oisin's last game)

[01] Votes and unvotes must be in the following format:

VOTE: Galya
Code: Select all
VOTE: Galya

UNVOTE
Code: Select all
UNVOTE

You may vote at any time during the day, and your vote will continue to count until you unvote. Votes and unvotes in any other format will not be counted. Sorry, but I can't go digging to find them. Make them obvious for me please.

[02] Please be attentive and unvote, if necessary, before casting a new vote. This is not required, but I'd appreciate it. Please just stick an unvote in the line above your new vote.

[03] Lynching will require a simple majority of votes. Once a player has reached the necessary majority, their pleas are useless and any attempts to unvote will be unheeded. Feel free to post in twilight, though. Once I post a death scene, night has begun, and I will lock the thread. I will reopen the thread when I post the information for the next day, in about 2-3 real life days.

[04] You may vote: no lynch. Majority votes of this kind are necessary to end the day without a death. This is very rarely an advantageous decision, but it's always an option.

[05] If a deadline is reached with no majority, the day will end without a lynch. I don't want to set a deadline, but if I have to, aka, if people or stalling or the game is not progressing, I will.

[06] The game is not to be discussed outside the thread. Please do not talk about, send private messages about, anything about this thread outside of it IF you are a player. Anyone else can feel free to comment as they like, just please stay out of the play thread. The only exception to this rule is that mafia members may talk to each other as much as they like in private, but ONLY during the night. If you violate this rule, then you are cheating, and if I find out, I will remove you from the game. And don't forget, I am an Admin. I see pretty much everything. So don't try it.

[07] When I set a day deadline, the deadline lasts until I actually lock the thread.

[08] Once your death scene has been posted, you're dead. Stop typing. Not even a "Bah!" post, please. Save it for after the game is over.

[09] No small or invisible text. Don't edit/delete previously submitted posts either. If you edit or delete your own or anyone else's post, you have cheated, and I will remove you from the game.

[10] Don't quote any PMs from me in the game thread. This is cheating, and if you do, I will remove you from the game.

[11] If you have a night choice to make, it is due by the posted deadline. I will not wait for you--if you do not submit a choice to me, I'll make it for you and you won't like it.

[12] If you anticipate being unavailable for more than a 48-hour period, please post a notice to that effect in the thread. Be considerate, don't leave us hanging.

[13] I am only Goblyn, and thus not (entirely) perfect. If I've made a mistake, please tell me by private message as soon as possible. Please do not do so in thread. I won't remove you from the game, but it disrupts game play, so I'd appreciate it if you refrain from doing that.

[14] If you have any questions at all, feel free to PM or e-mail me. My e-mail is on my profile. I check both quite regularly, and will get back to you as soon as possible.

[15] Remember, it's a game and it's supposed to be fun. Please be nice to your fellow players. I don't want to have to edit or delete posts for abusive comments or trolling and the like.

The game will begin once everyone has checked in, stating that they understand their role and are ready to play. And since this game begins at Night, once that has happened I will lock the thread and set a deadline for the roles to submit their targets, etc.

Sorry, it's a basic "Godfather" role. When the Detective investigates the Alpha Wolf, he appears to be a Villager, even though he isn't.

Now now let's not be hasty. Game hasn't started yet. But if he doesn't respond by tonight the sun will set and Night will begin without him.

EDIT: To clarify that, I just meant that I will start the Night session, lock the thread and set a deadline for when Night roles have to submit their actions by. The first Day will tentatively begin on Friday.

Players with Night roles may now begin discussing their actions and will submit their decisions to me by 5 PM Central Time on Friday. Day 1 will begin either then, or when all actions have been completed, whichever comes first.

Day 1 –
As the sun slowly creeps above the quiet horizon, the Villagers discover that the previous night had not been as peaceful as it seemed. They find the bloody, tattered remains of a seemingly large form scattered on the edge of town. It is impossible to recognize who the poor soul was, and only by taking a quick headcount do they discover the identity of the victim.

Big Jimmy, Villager, has been slaughtered.

And while doing this count, they realize another among them is missing. After a brief search of the village, the foot of another body can be seen just barely poking out of a storage shed. The corpse was stuffed inside haphazardly, as if someone was hurrying to hide their mistake. This body has no claw or bite marks, but simply a large gunshot wound through what once was his forehead.

Juicer, Villager, has been murdered.

With 12 alive, it’s 7 votes to lynch. Let the games begin. Good luck.

Brothers and Sisters... We must come together in these times of need. Only through god can we repent and be saved from these savage attacks. We must unite and band our strength and our voices so that we can be heard and seen through the darkness of godlessness that has come and beset against us. Let us not use violence but peace to solve these heinous crimes.

Nonsense! Were god watching us, or if he cared at all, these beasts never would have descended onto our lands. It is time for us to take matters into our own hands and root these creatures out.

I am but a schoolteacher without children to teach thanks to this pack, and am not of as high intelligence as you men, but I see no clues on which to vote. However, if one more intelligent than I can shed some light, I would be willing to look. We have already lost two innocents this night, along with the many who came before them. I would hate to be rash.

It seems that the Large and Skinny man both have been taken from us. May their souls be received by our Lord in a most humble way. Surely these beasts must become gone. We must squelch these monstrosities before we are taken. I, for one, do not believe in killing people to just get to an end of it all, but we need to know whom was adventurous last night. We do not need another Jack the Ripper on our hands or streets for that matter.

And who would you suggest, Cal? You seem awful quick to get to violence, but with no proper target in mind. Perhaps you don't care who it is, as long as it's one of us what comes to harm. Or maybe we should be lookin' at No'Vak, who was all too pleased to jump on the suggestion in order to attack someone who merely spoke good religion and good caution.

Ya'll people don't get too crazy here. I'm going fishing, and you best believe I'm taking my shotgun, too. Where the hell is our sheriff? He should take care of these things. Him or animal control. I done checked my huntin' dogs, and they're all squared away in their kennel. Ya'll better do the same with yours. Ain't no rabid dog runnin' roundabouts that we can't put down if we need to.

Well that sucks a stampede of donkey * that 2 villagers have been cut down already.
Why did the hunter have to shoot someone? Why couldn't it have not waited? At least have someone to blame first.
Hunter, don't even reply to this or you will give yourself away.

It is too early for me to vote yet but I dont want to just abstain and leave it for the day to pass and the wolf pack to take another one of us.
Lets focus on which wolf pup didnt like Big Jimmy. I hope it was not a "We wanted to just eat the big guy."

A mysterious gentleman appeared from out of the shadows. He had been quietly studying the unfolding scene and had finally decided upon this moment to speak. Puffing furtively on a long stemmed cherrywood pipe, the stranger finally doffed his hat and spoke.

Werewolves; terrible business, that. Allow me to properly introduce myself, I am Lord Gigglesworth. I was only passing through this quaint little village on my way to London when my carriage was assailed by a pack of what could only be wolfmen. Completely unarmed, I miraculously managed to seek shelter from the attack in a church. My coachman however, was not so fortunate...

Even less fortunate, is the passing of Lord Jimmington. We were never close friends, but we both attended university together at Oxford. It is my estimation that these werewolves are perhaps more intelligent than we've given them credit for. Jimmington possessed a famously sharp wit and to eliminate him so early on was very likely to be a calculated move. I suspect that the werewolves we are dealing with are by now, seasoned veterans at this... game.

Oisin seems to carry himself with some authority. Until he is able to prove his innocence, I will continue to address him with caution. Indeed, a brilliant mind can be a great ally, and an even greater foe.

As for the rampant gunman, I only hope that God is more merciful to him than I will be if he is ever found out. Regrettably, he or she seems to have done a bang up job of disguising the murder. Shooting without suspicion of wrong-doing is horrendous, and I would suspect any vigilante killings to be done by a criminal. Perhaps that rascally bandito, Torberto! Or possibly Outhro, who was so quick to cover the tracks of the vigilante by saying:

Hunter, don't even reply to this or you will give yourself away.

The first one to claim their innocence is always suspect. Therefore, I shall cast the first Finger of Suspicion at Mr. Di' Puts! What can you offer to show your innocence?

((I'll be at Western Wars for the next few days. I'll try to sneak a post or two if I'm working troll, but I can't make any promises))

Ah, my brother I see doubt has clouded your judgement. Can we not find peace through the lord. *Turning to address everyone else as well*
This is a test sent by the Lord Almighty to test us. We must not let fear and doubt seperate us from the truth. The Lord is our truth we should be trying to seek him, and in doing so find our answer.

Yes, lets call me the vigilante that is more dangerous than the wolves right now. I would definitely be a reckless lone gunman on the first night and shoot everybody that I didnt know first. It would be rude of me to not gain paranoia over my friends first and wear my monocle when I polish my gun next to the fireplace.
But I am more into realty. An imbecile hiding a body in a storage shed should not harm the sales of the now recently available furnished homes on the country side.

We could check the logic on how the foreign pagan deity Galya has cursed the fools into being these savage beasts. If there are three creatures, then there must be at least two that are veterans and a possible random inexperienced wild card. And as mentioned before, it should be veterans that knew our town's Dr. Watson impersonator was going to be a threat. The inexperienced wolf pup will have to follow orders for the first few hunts before they think their * have dropped enough to suggest their own ideas.
We can weed out the pup itching for a bite and we must discover who knew enough about Lord Jimmington.

At the invocation of the Goblyn deity’s name, a great gust of air swept through the village, kicking up loose soil as it passed. The villagers shielded their eyes instinctively, and some tried to cover their ears from the thundering roar. In spite of this, a high-pitched cackle surrounded the poor mortals, and a voice began to speak, almost in tandem with the windstorm.

"Logic dey say, ha! Wat non-sense be dis? Own-ly foolish pinkskins t’ink dat a Goblyn goddess use der logic ta curse frail men inta destroyin’ each othur. Chaos be all dat we be, an’ all dat we use! Dees mortals better t'ink little harder now, or else be joinin' der friends in dee Underworld very soon."

And the voice broke into another screech of laughter, louder than before, chilling all those who heard it down to their bones. But soon the sound slowly dissipated into nothing, and the wind gave a final great howl, knocking the entire group to the ground. Then, without warning, it was gone. The sun shone down brightly on the little village, and only a faint whisper could be heard on the air, to serve as a reminder that they were not as alone as they once thought.

((Or in other words, it was completely random. I chose roles by drawing names out of a hat. Literally. And sorry about the overdone reply, but you opened the door and I just couldn't resist having a little fun. :) ))

((Also, I am in no way shape or form calling myself an actual Goblyn deity. Just in case other Goblyns read this.))

It seems we're of three minds and factions:

One group wants caution (or is it rather purposeful indolence?), and doesn't want to lynch anybody. The benefit and curse of this course of action is one and the same - no one dies, whether villager or werewolf.

Then we have another group ready to accuse those suggesting inaction as doing so to promote not caution and safety, but complacence with our fate. They rightfully suspect that this could be the monsters' plan - to keep themselves safe from justice while seeming to have the best interest of the town in mind. Or is it just that they'd like to see anyone die, and will take any excuse to make an accusation.

Thirdly, we have those who suspect our oldest residents, those who knew Jimmington's wit and intellect best. Who falls into this group? Oisin, certainly, but also Giggles who raised suspicion against him. Outhro has lived here at least 3 years, and I myself 2.Horati settled down last year, and there may be others I've missed. This seems like a promising line of thought, but there are also a lot of suspects.

Juicer also lived here for some time, but alas, he's been murdered. I don't know as that trying to discover his killer will be fruitful, since they seem as interested in removing this scourge from our town as anyone, if only misguidedly. Whoever they are, I hope they exhibit better caution in the future.

I'm of many minds about this matter. I've run myself in circles trying to figure it out. Are there any other suggestions? We have yet to hear from our exotic guest, Torberto! Perhaps he can offer an outsiders' perspective on the issue.

The only reason I call for this due diligence that everyone seems to questioning is that, in my time in the militia, I have watched groups be picked apart a man at a time simply because they lacked the courage and the force of will to simply act on their own volition.

I brush down my mustache and take another pull from a dark brown glass bottle, clearing my throat firmly before continuing.

As Lord Gigglesworth has shown through his own testimonial, these beasts are looking to prey on us at our weakest. On a lone road, they swarmed him and used the advantages of both surprise and force of numbers. Had it not been for what I assume is the greater interest of the horses drawing your carriage for food, you likely would have found yourself in as poor a state as dear Jimmington.

As for Juiceros...it is an utter shame that we find him in this state. His death is the EXACT reason why we cannot let this turn into a panicked witch hunt. If we turn on one another without good reason, these monsters will have very little work ahead of them to finish tearing us apart.

But who is missing and not speaking up?
We can take the idea of us speaking now might lack wolves being verbally attentive as we speak to be prepared to defend themselves. As the werewolves have been very active in their night hunting, then they have been checking to make sure they are not under suspicion.

One example is Torberto posting after he was mentioned. Could be coincidence especially because the 5 hour gap from when mentioned and when he replied. Not as frequent if he was lurking a lot.

Where is the rest of the village? Speak now or prepare for unnecessary suspicions.

Indeed my most humble condolances over lord jimingtons undue demise, may we not look to the village and see who is well fed? The blood is still fresh and so is the trail, who seems to gain the most from this.
Koom seems most determined to preach the ways of his god and abstain from all killing. The loudest often falls the farthest in my experience. He may not be rabble rousing but my suspicions land squarely on him first and foremost.
Cal and No'vak both seem ready to jump the gun, and quite unified in their kill and ask questions later approach. Blind with rage or glutinous killing beasts time will tell.
For now I lay simply my suspicions on these three until more proof steps forward.

As has been spoken, rage and panic do not become any of us, my dear friends. I believe this day it would be best for us to wait out this night. Narrow the search for the true fiends. I know it is hard sitting back and watching horrid acts happen to our family and friends, but rest assured, we will survive this.

Current Vote Count:

3 No Lynch (Koom, Azgarehta, Horati)
1 Koom (No'Vak)
1 Horati (Torberto!)

7 Not Voting (Oisin, Guts, Outhro, Giggles, Caleidah, Bevin, Zwei)

Clarification:

Voting to "abstain" means nothing in this game, so I am going to assume that anyone who writes "abstain" means "no lynch". If that isn't what you intended, then please put an Unvote somewhere so I can update the vote tally correctly.

EDITED because I spelled your name wrong Az. I swear I'll learn it by the end of this. :)

My brothers and sisters... Has there not been enough violence for one night? Can we not come together and try to solve this without violence. Violence just begets more violence. If we point fingers in hatred and fear there is just too great a chance that another innocent will die. Can you live with the blood of innocents on your hands? I can not, for now we should turn to the burial of our friends.

Although I would hate for an innocent to die by our hands, it does not make sense for us to sit idle and wait for the beasts to take another of our number. However, I am yet to be convinced to vote for someone. There are many possibilities, and no certainties. We have outsiders, a man shouting religion, and some who seem thirsty for blood.
