Historic tactics?

Postby Orion Nomad » Thu Sep 22, 2005 3:47 pm

Do they work? The historic tactics. The phailanx, shield wall, archers on the left flank, tortice, useing a week center then folding in the flanks.
Or does every one just run at each other???

well those tactics can work, just that because theyre historic they can work a few times but one of two things will happen. 1: since theyre historic the counter to the tactic can be found with enough searching or 2:if overly used a weakness will be found by the opposing side. but sometimes a bum rush can really do the trick. most of the times the tactics are really good way to start and work from there. thats my 2 cents :armor1:

Even simple maneuvers take practice and drilling. Even if we all drilled and praticed maneuvers in our respective units(which most of us don't want to do or can't manage because of the distance involved between members of the unit),. When you have a field battle(everyone split into two teams), no central leader makes it hard to work together.

An army is a very organized machine requiring a structured training system and a strong system of command with numbers large enough to perform most maneuvers, no one has really reached that level in our sport.

Even then, historical tactics work to a level in our sport, but only so far. There are many key differences in our sport. For instance, archers can't shoot 100 yards, calvary don't exist, single green can't pierce armor, no headshots and a general need of caution so no one gets hurt.

Those are all really good points.
I know alot of people try to give the sport REALISM but due to safety issues we can't really add too much realism, our goal should be PLAYABLITY. so at the same time all the historic awsomeness can only be created to a degeree.

Plus we don't have siege engines :(
