Grappling Training...

Postby Sir_Mel » Sat May 06, 2006 1:06 am

does anyone know of a kick-ass grappling system that I can learn. Like some kind of book I can read or something. Being a big person, I want to use my size to my advantage so I'm trying to implement more shield kicking and grappling so any tips and hints are much appreciated.

You could also look into Sambo. Similar to JuiJitzue but it originates in russia.

actually if you wanna learn grappling wreslting style learn greco roman not what they have in high schools. by the time they teach you to be effective at wrestling in high school it's time to go to college. now college wrestling will teach you up.

Greco is the better style for our needs. But HS wrestling can teach you what you need if you are a heavy weight. Big guys learn more upper body moves than the lighter weight classes.

This doesnt help Soth who is not in school.

IKE

ps .. yes, I was a wrestler for 7 years - competing in both HS and Greco styles. Beware the heavy weight in spandex.

i was a heavy to man champion in high school and on the us amatuer team for two years. i just don't like the way HS wrestling is done. but yea i guess it's kinda aplicable for our sport

and they also have A.A.U. teams he can join that will teach him either style thats why i made mention if it becuase AAU starts in like 7th grade and you can compete in it till your like 45 i beleive

I would like to remind and bring to attention for all that I am not in fact the famed and amazing Soth. Unfortunately, I made this account before I had chosen a belegarth name and this was the name I used for all of my online accounts. So, yeah, I'm actually Melannen from the Realm of Loderia.

P.S. I should probably put that info in my sig or something.

well...if you're a big guy, you'll probably be a sheildman, which means you probably won't be grappling too much

I was only saying that cause a lot of people seem to think I'm out of school or something. I assure you, I still attend college regularily (whatever that means) and put in my 12/16 hrs a semester like all my other tormented college brethren. Just kidding, college ain't that bad, sure it's only community college, but it sure beats the hell out of highschool.

And grey, yeah I know I should be a shield man, but I hate shields. I hate the idea of tying up a useful appendage just so I can hide behind something. I am trying to get money together so I can make one of those cool sled/round shields so I can wear it on my back. But yeah, I just asked this so I could see what methods people thought worked best and perhaps employ some myself. I have an uncle who would swear by aikido and that's some pretty sweet stuff, but I want some more, intense physical, judo-style throwing/grappling moves. Thanks for the help and I'm still welcoming any Ideas.

remember no joint locks

on the shield thing if your using it right it's an offense weapon too

and i can beat 80 percent of flourentine fighters with ease and the next 10% with a little difficulty. you'll notice the best fighters in the game tend to mostly use shields(the knights of numenor and the headhunters of the horde and the EBF)

that being said if you can master it which given a tight time frame would take 5 to 6 years the flourentine is the ultimate style because both hand become offensive and defensive at the same time while a shield man can actual kill with his shield unless he is vokor

it starts with the wieght room...
if you want to beat Vokor you better be strong. I don't know you and maybe your close maybe your not. But when a man of his size and strength has good use of skills and balance it becomes a very tough battle.
The main help is going to be practice partners. Poeple willing to throw you and be thrown around. Then there is the space and padding issue. If you donate your time to a local High School Wrestling Program, usually they can teach you a bunch. but it is a time commitment.

if you just start looking at events you won't learn much or be in shape to learn.
