Gotta love having a girlfriend to spar with. Even though she beats me half the time.

Love the spin shot, I sucked * at beltaine although it was 500% improvement from myself at WW06. But the spin shot got them everytime, no one ever sees it coming. Even when I don't fake them out.

I'm in the process of trying to talk mine into it. She's still * about me shooting her in the * at 15 feet... after trying to convience her to play paintball for a month and telling her it did not hurt. I tried to play it off as the gun went off, "you're a Marine *." Eh, at least the excuse worked when she got pregnant.

Next time could you try to have a lighter weapon cover, or a lighter background for contrast? I have a hard time seeing where your sword is in the film.

Thanks for posting, though. I'll be abusing you soon!

What thickness have the cores been?

.610 Kitespar. It's the 4th weapon I've snapped this year. One was .505, the rest where .610.

1) Home made club, .505 (snapped core)
2) Edhellen Medium Kitespar .610 (stolen)
3) Edhellen Medium Kitespar .610 (snapped core)
4) Edhellen Medium Broad 1.5 core (blew out tip)
5) Edhellen Medium Kitespar .610 (snapped core)
6) Edhellen Long Broad 1.5 core (blew out tip)
7) Edhellen Long Broad 1.5 core (blew out tip)
8) Edhellen Custom Barrel Mace Kitespar .610 (sheared green tip)
9) Edhellen Custom Barrel Mace Kitespar .610 (snapped core)
10) Edhellen Long Broad 1.5 core (still going!)

* it, I've broken another weapon. I've got just one long broad left, hopefully it'll last me a month or two.

Next year I'm buying 12 off the bat at the beginning of the season.

Hey, Winfang, you may be interested to see this--it's the design I use for counterweighting and reinforcing my kitespar-cored swords:

Image

Not only does this counterweighting system make the sword perform better than pretty much any other (and way better than any sword in the same weight range, which is about 20 oz) the fiberglass reinforcement extending about 1/4 of the way into the blade keeps the core from snapping at the end of the handle, where the two swords I made without this feature did after about three days of fighting. You may wish to try it out, as it will no doubt save you the trouble of replacing weapons.

Are you going to EQ, I would love to give that design a try on the field.

Question, where is the balance point when you do this? Typically when I snap kitespar it at the balance point.

The long broad cores aren't my problem, it's the tips. I blow them out so quickly.

well the kite spar is going to break faster, but reinforcing it will just make a new weak point furhter down. where ever it can flex its where it will break. what you need is a solid kitespar or a thicker side wall.

Well, this design hasn't broken since I first used it, whereas its two predecessors broke after two days of fighting.

Winfang, I unfortunately will not be able to attend Equinox, BUT someone from my realm will be going, and I'm going to make one of these for him, so perhaps he'll let you borrow it? The sword I use is 37" overall length, with a 9" hilt; the balance point is about 1.5" from the end of the grip. I always wear gloves when I fight with it--without them, it's harder to grip because the rectangular grip I use doesn't have much cushioning on it, while leather gloves add a little padding and a lot of grippiness.

I'll tell Destinova (Nova) to show you the weapon, and tell me what you think of it.

You should make two swords out of cross country skis.

Hey, Winfang, sorry they weren't ready for Nova to bring to EQ. Did you get to see the swords I made him at Okfest? They turned out pretty well, in my opinion, although I hand-sewed the covers in 10 minutes right before weapons check, so those could use some improvement.

I wasn't at Oktoberfest so I got to miss out :(

Bleh.

I made four of these one day two weeks ago, and they all turned out great. To reiterate, I highly recommend people try this design, perhaps just using an Edhellen sword fry the first time if you don't have any evalite.

ah *, you had them at okfest?

I had wanted to take a look at them, but didn't see you I guess.

Looks like a nice design though, If I get into foamsmithing, I'll probably try it.

thanks!

For 30 bucks and the cost of postage, I will.
