What is your preferred weapon/weapon or weapon/shield combination and why?

I like longswords when I don't have a shield and have recently enjoyed fighting with my old short sword while I have a shield.

If I go flourintine, I have a heavier longsword and an ultralight longsword (just barely makes the weight limit I think) that are about the same length that are fun to fight with. However, I suck horribly at flourintine and am pretty bad at single blue, so I've preferred my old short sword as of late.

48" sword, (36"blade/12"grip)

No shield.

I block with my sword and counter attack as quickly as possible.

I base my style off of old Kung Fu movies.

A little off topic:

As I heard at CW there are 3 types of fighters. Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3.

Think of the zones like a dart board. 1 being center and 3 being outer ring.
Zone 1 fighters get in close, ie daggers/short swords.
Zone 2 fighters stay about arms length from his/her opponent, ie long sword/jav.
Zone 3 fighters stay far away as they can, ie glaive/archer.

Depending on the fighting style and the person personal space is how one would determine zones...

That being said I will go longsword no shield with a zone 1. (Watch CW10 single blue turny and you will see most are zone 2 and 3 fighters)
Short sword with a shield, also zone 1.
Short spear (4 feet) and long sword zone 2.
Short spear (4 feet), buckler and short sword zone 1.

along those lines, I usually go zone 2 with short or longsword/round shield, but I also like to have fun with a glaive once in a while, and my favorite style is archery, and I consider my range with a bow pretty good :)

Sword + Shield, I use a 29-30" round punch these days, with a 37" sword (27" blade/10" hilt) unless it's a really big battle with lots of archers, in which case I may use my huge punch shield, which is 4' high and 27" wide. But I really don't like to use it.

Without a shield, I use my 45" longsword, a two-handed blue. It's made from kitespar, but hasn't broken yet because I use it so rarely, and it's ridiculously fast. I need to make one like it with a stabby, however, as that would afford me a much greater margin for error.

I am definitely zone 3. I don't stand a chance in combat if I get any closer. At a distance is where I am the most effective on the field.

I prefer a bow over any other weapon, although I am going to be building a glaive at the beginning of next season.

When fighting with a single blue (which is about half the time), I usually stick with a 34" broadsword. Just under three feet is a good length for me since I'm a smaller person and like to use a lot of footwork.

With a shield, I prefer using a round strappy no larger than five square feet. A round shield I feel grants more mobility than a more vertical shape. Unfortunately, I'm currently stuck with a heavy * half tower.

Sword and Shield: Dome round with ~30" blade. On occasion, I'll fight with a longsword.

Florentine: Two longswords ~32-33" blades. Lately, I've been fighting with two short swords about ~26-28" with stabbing tips but haven't had much success since I've really gotten used to working the longer range.

Archery: Dome shield on back with ~28" blade in my belt. I've caught quite a few people with the sword when they charge me and aren't expecting me to fight back.

Hmm... I kinda fight in all three zones.

I dig archery, and love my spear. Oftentimes, though, when fighting spear I get all up in close range, either by drawing a short sword and using the spear upright to parry, or I choke up higher on the grip.

Longsword is a staple of mine. 33" blade, 15-18" grip. I fight with it at both it's max range, and up close.

Every now and then I like going one or two short swords 15-18" blade, 6" grip. Not so much with dagger anymore, though.

I fight zone 2, with a 30-36" sword, just over 12 oz's. I'm gonna switch to something longer as soon as I can figure out what kind of core I want to use.

I've also got a 40" 12 oz flail, and a 30" turbo bat, and I switch it up a lot.

My shield (which I always use) is a little hard to describe. It's an old Legion standard, which is an oval with the top and bottom cut off. It comes to just above my knee, and is a little wider than an average round, I think. It's made from normal quarter inch ply-wood. It's special.
