What's A Good Combination With Archery?

I'm new to archery at Belegarth, and I was wondering what weapon would be the all out best for an archer to use after his quiver is empty? A two hand for example? (which is what I was thinking but don't have one)

Edit: Thanks guys. Those will definately be easy enough to find. By the way. Is a "shield kick" when you literally kick the shield? (just makin sure)

I've seen alnost every combination work. The most common I see is a large blue or a small red.

I have a back shield and a short blue on my belt that I carry when I'm arching. Having the backshield is really helpful in protecting against enemy archers. When I'm out of arrows or it's almost the end of the battle, I'll drop the bow and bring the shield onto my arm. The short blue is also useful for defending yourself if you get charged.

My backup weapon when I'm arching is my legs--I find it awkward to carry a backup weapon with me, because I'm fast and rely a lot on mobility, so when I run out of arrows, I either run and find more, or run and find the nearest sword and board dropped by a dead guy. I do wear my greaves and bracers when I'm arching (minimal weight addition for fairly significant protection), so once I set my bow down off to the sideline (or if there's a dead person nearby that I know, hand it to them to watch) and grab up melee weapons from the dead, I'm good to go.

grappling or a shield kick. people running up on an archer never expect that. you've got to dump all your stuff first, but then you can totally catch people off guard.

i usually carry a short blue for immediate self defense, then i'll look around the field to see if i should get a shield or a red.

yes, actually kicking the shield. if a person using a shield is running in on you, give them a solid boot to knock them off balance.

Thanks for those suggestions guys and thanks for the shield kick. I watched the Wolfpack Opener 07 video on YouTube and I saw plenty of awesome shield kicks (along with ALOT of other crazy amazing stuff) to get the idear across :)

Just be careful when you're doing it, and don't kick anyone. get the basics down first before you try anything crazy.

Right :). Does you preferably kick the lower point of the shield (which is what i observed) or does it not matter?

and an easily drawable weapon. I have seen many an archer run away, to be chased by two or three people, only to be killed while trying to draw their side arm. and if you do run keep in mind the person behind you will be aiming at your back/legs.

Great suggetions guys. So savetuba, you think an "easy drawable" weapon would be like a blue short sword then?

yeah, and learning how to shoot and load on the run is a good skill too.

kick the bottom more to open up a shot. kick the center to keep them off you.

Ok, thanks. I'm good at moving/shooting already thanks to hours of practice with ranging at home. I'm looking forword to attempting a shield kick next practice.

"easy drawable" weapon would be a weapon you can have in your hand in less than 3 seconds without looking/searching for it, or pulling on it hoping it comes out of your belt.

I use a glaive a lot and what I do is hang a dagger from my neck. It is tear away with little force, and I can reach it in a manner of seconds without searching for it. That and a long blue at my side, but that is for when those times I don't need something fast.

I would assume an archer would use the draw hand to grab a weapon.

also our archer trained running and shooting by having people chase him while he reloaded, spun and shot. He is rather good at it now, but running away and trying to pull a blue from his belt is his weakness.

I see. I will try that training idea. So then maybye a dager or a shortsword. (or a two hand for fun cleaving  ) Thanks for all the information about this stuff guys. Being a noob and all I probably wouldn't have learned any where near as much as I have already by just trial and error. :)

When I have all my crazy equipment together and working, I love to arch with a red sword in a backsheath, a buckler and full armor.
But I'm a tank, so it's natural.

get decent with polearms. its a combo that works with the "best weapon is feet" plan. pay attention to your surroundings. weapons get dropped everywhere, especially big 2handed types. people lose arms and drop the big stick. so if youve got 2 good arms and no arrows, use it.

Well considering I am 6'2 350 lbs, I just look panicked when they come at me and then drop all archery and bash the hell out of them... ask around at some of the latest events... I even bashed Butane with his flaming cupcake shield... which brings up another note... NEVER run at a fat man with food on your shield!!!

Problem with that is, only works so many times before people stop and think, wait a minute, he is gonna stomp me. I am only getting people that are charging me and have not faced the wrath of the werebear yet!

I use a red sword in my back hanger I made. Works really well! I can draw it instantly and have it ready to kill the person who is coming at me thinking I am an easy kill cause I have a bow.

Woohoo! It continues! See, I am not the ONLY non observant one :-) I think there might be a small bit of interest left for this post.

As for me, when someone comes charging at me or I run out of arrows, I just draw a short blue. You just got to know how much time you have before the enemy reaches you and how long it takes to draw. If an enemy comes charging at me and I still have an arrow on me and my bow is drawn, I aim it at the enemy's head, he/she then automatically lifts his shiled to protect his/her head hiding me from view, I then drop the bow without shooting and draw my sword while his/her eyes are focused on the back of his/her shield. Don't shoot cause the arrow will just bounce uselessly off the shield and the other person will know that the arrow has been wasted and will lower the shiled and continuing charging and will probably reach you before you draw. Sometimes you can hold your bow up as a defence with one hand if it isn't broken giving you time to draw with the other hand but this won't work very well on skilled fighters and you will need to do a fair amount of practice for it to work since you will have only one chance to block with the bow.
