Troll will be open the following times.
Thursday 3:00pm-12:00pm
Friday 8:00am-Midnight
Saturday 8:00am ? Midnight
Only Troll will have the key to the gates, so if Troll is closed you will be unable to drive off site. There is a parking area outside of Troll where vehicles can be parked for total access, but there is a small permit fee ($2-$5) required by the site managers. The camp areas are accessible from the outer parking area, though it is about 200 yards to the closest camping site. If you arrive while Troll is closed, you are welcome to set up camp and go back to Troll at a later time. NOBODY will be allowed on site prior to 3:00pm Thursday, and everyone must be out by 1:00 pm Sunday.
Weapon Check will be from 10:00 am ? 11:00 am Friday and Saturday. Heralds will check weapons for late arrivals to the event if necessary.
Battles will start at 10:00 am Friday and Saturday and run until dusk, approximately 6:00pm.
Feast will be at dark on Saturday night, approximately 7:00 pm.
All event times are EASTERN. This is important since the event is in GA, though the nearest towns are in AL which is CENTRAL time. Sunrise is about 5:30 am, sunset about 6:30 pm. Average temperatures for the event are a high of 64 and a low of 40, records are a high of 85 and a low of 20. Be prepared for cold nights. Forecasts will be updated when available.
Event specific information will be given out at Troll.
Noise restrictions will be loosely enforced from midnight ? 8:00 am. If it is loud enough that the neighboring campers complain, it is too loud.
This campsite is PRIMITIVE. There is no electricity or running water (unless you count the dirty river). There are very nice pit toilets/outhouses which are nicer than any port-o-john. There are about 20 fire rings and stone tables at the camp sites with room at each site for at least 3 large tents. There are also charcoal grill set ups at the sites. Each fire ring has a grate which flips over to cook on. Should every camp site become filled, there is plenty of non-developed space to camp in. There is plenty of dead wood available for fires, and if the rangers are tree farming this year it may even be cut and stacked.
Rood Creek park is on GA hwy 39 about 13 miles north of Georgetown GA, which is just across the AL/GA border from Eufaula AL. Rood creek is 2 miles south of Florence State Marina on hwy 39. *** Here is a web site which has a small map which may help you find connecting roads. Rood Creek is #26.

Click on the link in the waivers section. Please get these notarized, though we will try to have a notary and waivers on site.
Feast will be held Saturday night, Southern Marches style. This means that there will be food, but it may not be what is normal for a medieval feast. In the past we have done kabobs, pizza, wings, and burritos. Troll will ask if you are planning on staying for food Saturday since last year we had too much waste.
Showers ? The nearby Florence State Marina management has changed its mind every year on showers and such. It is possible that they will once again NOT allow us to use there showers even for a fee.
The website for Winter War is a bit out of date through no fault of either the people running the website, the current realm leader, or those who suddenly found themselves in the position of running the event. Where different, the information in this post takes precedence. Information will be posted at the event for further updates.
Turnout for this event has grown every year. If the growth continues as it has in the past this year should have between 75-100 people. Last year we had about 70 people.
Forecast as of 2/16/2006: Thursday rain 30% high 69 low 45, Friday rain 60% high 63 low 45, Saturday rain 60% high 69 low 41.
