Is it really feasable to stay in mesquite and go back and forth to the site in 10 minutes?
because in need to buy a new tent. Staying in mesquite is cheaper than buying a tent. And guaranteed to be warm and dry for my ladies.
can i get the lowdown on this hotel?
and can i bring my dog?

Fork, I have an answer just in time. It will be feasible to stay in a hotel and drive 10 minutes down the road to the event, but we had to move the event, AGAIN. Basically any hotel in St. George or Bloomington will be close to I-15 and from I-15 to the site is about 10 minutes.

This year really has been a nightmare for finding a location. The person through whom we had access to the property in Littlefield was not the owner, but had arranged to use the property for paintball tourneys. The owner was apparently getting irritated at them and last Thursday night told them to bugger off and never come back. So, we, with two weeks to the event, found ourselves without a site, again.

We have scrambled the last few days and come up with a couple of options, one of which has pulled through for us thanks to Link's connections. We will now be holding the event about 5 miles south of St. George on the Arizona strip next to a very small man-made reservoir. We will have to set out a table with national guard recruiting materials on it as the national guard has agreed to let us call it a recruiting activity so we have a right to use the land. Other than the table, there should be no further guard presence and we still get to hold our event in relative peace. Sorry for all the changes, people. I hope no one has already made reservations in Mesquite, we just finalized this last night.

The new location and driving directions:

SluffaluffaISK.

I still hold you personally responsible for my good time.

Ditch lights will be tested in the next couple days. Sounds like I might need to figure out an alternate "mounting" setup than previously discussed?

How accessible is the site? regular cars and vans or 4X4 only? Also, you mentioned 'Arizona strip', is it on your side of the gorge or our side? Trying to look at the satelite image on the map. Looks like you have to cross the gorge in order to make that southward road leading to it, is this correct?

Is there no address for the location? I don't trust "Unknown Road," and nor will Magellan.

Yes, Kraesh, there will be several undercover Guard operatives monitoring this recruitment operation. And stealing kidneys.

As you look at the map, much of County Highway 5 is gravel and the 'unknown road' that goes down to the mini-reservoir is a dirt road, but passable for normal cars. There will be a big, Loptr-friendly sign at the turnoff from co. highway 5. For those coming from the south, it is on the Utah side of the gorge, and then we dip back down into AZ. For those coming from the north, exit 2 is just after St. George and Bloomington, but before you get into the gorge.

For those who have progressed beyond street signs and developed a dependency on Magellan to tell them where to turn, the GPS coordinates for 'unknown road' are: Beginning (36.95723298299819, -113.5557308793068) and Ending (36.957661644120265, -113.54795515537262). It really shouldn't be hard to find your way there from exit 2, but you can get us at 435.767.1757 if you get lost.

Loptr, we will indeed need to consider other mounting options. I will be out there again this Saturday to look around and there may be a tree tall enough we could lash one of the light poles to it, but at least one of them is going to need stakes.

And, Fangy, sorry to hear you won't be making it and I hope the health issues and the subsequent money thing work themselves out quickly.

Fork, I forgot to address the dog question. It should probably be fine if he stays in camp. If he goes running around there are some cattle and a rancher vaguely nearby that might cause issues. I'll check into it a little more.

I guess I didn't say it, but the first post is updated with the new information. This is an unimproved location. There will be port-a-johns, but no running water and all fires must have a fire-ring or pit. Walmart is about ten minutes away for picking up water or other supplies. If you REALLY need a shower, I live about 15 minutes away and I'll haul you back to sluice off.

With all the drama we've had this year, we will be finalizing next year's location and getting it under some sort of contract by the end of May. Hopefully that will actually make a difference and we won't get booted at the last minute.

How close is the site to Mesquite? Not st george. Mesquite where there are retarded cheap hotel rooms and buffetts and gambling for my wife if tje weather sucks and we could smoke in a hotel room.

LOL. Oh, the FUN place.

Since we have now moved back to the St. George side of the gorge and off the highway a tad further, the drive will now be about 40 minutes from a hotel in Mesquite to the site. We have had some discussion with the Vegas guys about hosting an event in Mesquite or Overton sometime.

Good news - I have the 17th to 21st off work.

Bad news - my car is at its milage spot where it needs many "routine" repairs at once, timing belt, tires, clutch. This makes it not possible to drive my car and i can not afford to rent one.

The only way for me to to attend this event is by asking for a car pool spot. One complication is my camping gear and clothes fill up a trunk so i would take up alot of space. If anyone is passing through Palm Springs on their way to this event with alot of space and are willing to pick me up i would gladly throw in a reasonable amount of cash to chip in for gas. Please send me a PM if you think you may be able to help me out. If not i hope you guys have a great time!

Yes, I had forgotten that I had that on, the brass chain was given to me by Griff and I patterened yours after it.

OK SluffaluffaISK,
The lights and poles are accounted for and working. I have two power cords (I am fairly certain 100') A Roman guard for each tower to keep them upright sounds lovely, I have a volunteer in mind....

I still want to come down to WoR this weekend but I'm having to look at $$ flow really tightly after the event I went to last weekend. Currently I only have 2 Orders that have been paid for (those are Cheesy's and Vader's).

Is anyone else contemplating getting blanks, arrows, scabbards etc from me? If not I may not make it down and will send these down with Burke.

I will totally be there with my brand new mandolin and my f***ed up ulnar-nerve which prevents me from using a strap shield anymore, hooray!

Don't suppose there will be a bardic contest? If not, I suppose I will just have to go back to entertaining Lady Moonstone and the Shannara folk that I am so fond of.

Also, I might have some jewelry, pouches and random wood-burned feast gear (mostly celtic knots, but I can do custom work as well) to sell, so bring some spending cash.

I am not -nor have I ever been- a pikey.

All the black 2.4 lb has sold. I have some 28-30" blue 1.8-2lb that's 3inches thick just like loptr's huge * tear. I'll also have at least a few dozen arrow tip component kits and some completed tips/arrows.

Possibly more stufff now that I have today and tomorrow off of work (drum fell on my head at work and cut my scalp, the doc says I (I refrained from telling her that I know I don't have one, Loptr hit's me harder on a weekly basis).

Fitz bring a round blank for Ogre (our ATD Ogre, I'm sure there's another one out there). He'll pay you at the event unless you need it sooner.

Anyone at the event intereseted in something like this:

Image
It's the same 2.4lb that the black rounds I was selling and it's roughly 30" long x 15.75" wide and is about 3.75" thick.

I'll probably throw a few in the bags, I picked up about 10 of them yesterday.

oh and Isk, I'll have a few there but if he wants to makes sure that I don't sell it prepay is the way to go.

$10/round (again, it's the lighter weight stuff) and $10 each for the 2.4lb hexagons. I figured they'd make nice little punch heaters.

Well my plans to come this year are foiled once again. Due to a bank **** up half of my alloted gas money is being used to pay the bill they caused. Going to see what I can get fixed tomorrow but yeah douche bags didn't accept the money I had already given them and then gave me a late fee plus last months and this months payment.... ****.

Sorry to hear that, Kage, and I hope you get it worked out. Do you know if anyone else from Ebonhold is planning to make it down?

Awesome, Kraesh. We won't be at the site until Friday, though. Do you need somewhere to stay tomorrow night? Gamhain, we've got a couple determined stringed instrument fondlers down here as well so you should have someone to jam with.

Cedric, I'm sorry to hear that. We'll miss you guys. I'll see if I can kill a couple peeps in your memory.

Everyone, the forecast says some light rain with very little wind. It may just blow past our location, but bring rain gear just in case. Last weekend, of course, was sunny and gorgeous.

I just got the embroidery back, still haven't hemmed it all. I gave her the stuff a month ago, but, well, she gives us a really good deal so I can't complain. I am pretty happy with how the awards turned out. For the tourney, the winning team will get to decide which of them is Death, Conquest, War or Famine.

I also photoed the tokens with the three different options we'll offer for tying it to yourself. The red token border will be given to the folks who volunteer at the event.

I think we may. If you could PM an address of someplace just incase Arrow doesn't have somewhere we can stay that would be great.

Also, seeing as we will be so early, if you would like help with weapons check or troll just let me know.

Do you suppose there would be someone south of the event location that might we willing to house this Sith Lord? It determines whether I leave Thursday ~9pm or Friday at 5am.

Fitz, from talks tonight at practice it seems like we'll be there at 10am, so I'd imagine any time after then will be fine.
Also, I wanted to ask you about arrow kits. It's something of a long shot, (no pun intended) but I may have $40 coming my way to spend on them, and all my arrows failed inspection tonight. (100% my bad... okay more like 80 or 90) Anyways, I was hoping you could bring down 8 or so extra for me, even though I may be unlucky enough to not get the money this weekend.

Gamhain: As the head of our bardic unit, (Just so happens almost every one of my guys plays at least one instrument, most of us play more) I like to keep our bardic stuff non-competitive, simply for the love of the song, story, and rum. However, you bring down a shiny new mandolin and in my book, you've won!
Observation: The dag mods seem to be afraid that we're going to raid their realms, burn their homes and steal their women. That's ridiculous, I would never burn their homes.

Thanks for getting the witch to take care of things, Fork. We'll see how good she is. Either way, it won't be too cold but bring your woolies and it'll still be a lot of fun.

Everyone make your plans for the 4-man tourney. We will be starting it at 10 am Saturday so that we can let the winners parade their belt flags around the rest of the day. The tourney will be best out of three for each match-up, single elimination.
