Last update HAS BEEN POSTED.

PRE REG IS OPEN! See below for details.

A Belegarth event run by Huma (Derek Schultz) from Babylon.

This years theme is Rampaging Bears.

Please invite everyone and everybody who you think would love to come!

Info also posted on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=1 ... _invites=0

Also I want to express my appreciation to everyone who wants to COME to Western Wars but might lack food, shelter or friendship. If you come, I can provide Shelter, food and/or clothing and you will have many fellow fighters who would gladly let you join them around a fire.

HOWEVER for those of you who are in POOR finical situations, I WANT you to come. Even if you can't PAY to attend Western Wars (Which would be awesome but I know a few of you are down and out.) I'm Providing a few spots for people to VOLUNTEER their time instead. Meaning that you help with feast, run a few errands for me, help with weapons check and/or troll, or heralding and you can pay for the event by your service.

No I won't have you running around doing total * work like getting me food or rubbing me down with oils. You want to be at the event and have fun, I'm at the event and I would love to have fun but sometimes there's things going on that I have to do and I need helpers to make it go smoother. Just get in contact with me either on the boards, by emailing me at Dschultz26@hotmail.com or calling me 541-815-7229 and we can talk it over.

PRICING
Pre-Reg is NOW open. Pre-Reg will be by PayPal, Check and Cash ONLY.

Pre-Registration fee is $30
Non-Registration fee is $35

To send Cash or Check. Email me at Dschultz26@hotmail.com for my address. I must receive this by Sunday May 8th 2011.

To pay with Paypal - Send to Dschultz26@hotmail.com
Paypal pre-reg ends Wednesday May 11th 2011.

Important!! If you plan to use PAYPAL for means of paying your event fee, PLEASE NOTE that by using CERTAIN types of payment, there are FEE'S attached. This includes "EChecks, Credit cards, Debit Cards, and Paypal credit" which is 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction.

What doe's that mean? Even if you are making out $30 to send you will get d...educted by fees meaning I only get $29 instead of the full $30. TO ENSURE you do not get fees on your payment, make sure you send money via a BANK account transfer. If its real money being transferred between accounts, there are NO fees. If you have ANY questions how this works, please let me know.

So far only one person has sent money via paypal and I'll just chalk that up to my fault for not mentioning the fees in my update. Otherwise please ask if you need help understanding paypal.

For those of you who are only coming out for a day or maybe two days. Seek me out at the event and we'll work something out, I would rather have people show up rather then fill like they can't come because of monetary issues.

WHOLE EVENT
I will not be doing, or running, any tournaments. We've never had them in the past that I can recall and it's supposed to be a relaxing event anyway. I would rather people spend time on the field rather then standing around watching people. If there is enough interest in having said tournaments, send me a message requesting it and I'll work it in.

Here's the info on the campsite we will be staying at.
http://www.parks.wa.gov/parks/?selected ... ubject=all
It is called Beacon Rock Washington State Park.

The group camp is for tent and RV use. It accommodates 200 guests. Facilities include one kitchen shelter with power and one picnic shelter. There are two Adirondack (three-sided) sleeping shelters and two vault toilets. Showers are available in the main campground and moorage area.
For those who are traveling from FAR away, I'll make sure you guys get the sleeping shelters and if you need tents, food or ANYTHING! Please let me know!
Western Wars 8 is located about an hour to two hours away from the Portland International Airport for those of you looking to fly. We have and are more then willing to share tents, sleeping bags, food and weapons for anyone coming out of state!

What I need from my Fellow Fighter's, if possible, is thus.

A) Anyone who has had professional medical training that could serve as an on site nurse or EMT so I don't have to pay for one.
B) Volunteers to help for feast, mainly cooks
C) Volunteers to help with weapons check. (No bow's Allowed. Sorry. Park Rules.)
D) Volunteers to help with Heralding
E) Running Troll. Troll will be open from 10am to 4pm.

DIRECTIONS
From Highway 14 coming from either East or West. On the north side of the road look for a tiny house with a flagpole out front and a big stone rock with the words "Beacon Rock State Park" written on it out front RIGHT NEXT TO THE ROAD. There is also a road sign that says "Kueffler Rd" turn onto that road and drive up about a mile, there will be another sign that says "Groupsite Camp A" on the left, you cannot miss it. Turn onto that and you will be at Western Wars. This year I will try to have better signs out.

I'm afraid I will have to miss this one due to work. Of all the stupid reasons for me to miss a bear themed event, with my realm being "Banner of the Bear" (Beornve).

Fideal Approves this event.

Fideal will try to be at this event.

If Fideal has work, Fideal wholeheartedly expects her realm to invade said place of work, and carry her out.

These are her wishes.

That is all...

Greetings fellows! I'm making a post to ask if anyone would be willing to bring Grills or Bar B Q's to help with cooking feast? Charcoal or Propane, it doesn't matter. I'd also be supply Charcoal and Propane for those who can bring them, but don't want to use them. I assure you that I will not break them, nor will they be rampaged on while I am using them. I will make sure to also clean them!

After I'm done though, they are fair game for rampaging. Just saying.

So this will be my 4th Western Wars and I cannot WAIT for it. Hopefully the sky won't * on us like it did last year though.

Oh, Huma, I have a rice steamer and around 20 pounds of rice I can bring to use for feast if ya want. I don't have a grill though, sorry.

And booze... Now that I'm 21, it seems like a must for Drun-er, Western Wars!

Hey bud! Thanks for the offer, I'm not handling feast this year as I got my Co-Coordinator Kanon to do it.
But we're trying to plan up a whole new idea for feast that isn't just the same thing. Just because something is easy and works well, doesn't mean we don't like to branch out and try new things!

Maybe next year!

Besides obvious things (date, food, war council) are there any changes from last year, before I make the Western Wars VIII wiki entry?

Re: Western Wars 8 May 12-14 2011

Postby Huma » Tue Feb 08, 2011 6:32 pm

Update for Feb. Insurance just got back to me, in the process of filing more paperwork and getting them paid.
The State Park will also be getting back to me shorty about how our permit is coming. So far everything is look great like it did last year.

Also I got a bit of sad news, turns out I won't be able to be there all day Thursday as I have to work, I will be having someone arrive to set up for those of you getting there on Thursday as i won't be up until the evening time.

Nothing important is happening that needs to be taken care of anyway, just checking in with the rangers and letting them know we've arrived. As WW8 Draws closer I get more excited to see how much more the event will grow this year.

Thank you to everyone who has attended and showed their support for an awesome event that grew out of around 20 people into something more. Huge thanks to Zeadric (Spelling?) aka Brian Evans for starting Western Wars and allowing me to run it when he was unable to continue.

It's my promise to you as you're event coordinator to keep finding ways to make Western Wars the best NorthWest event I can.
This year I hope to be able to purchase an awing or overhang for the main campfire to keep the weather out. Funds are limited to me because of the fact my car blew up last weekend.

Plans for future Belegarth land is always on my mind and I've been dabbling here and there into Realtor market to see how that works and costs for land. It's still on the "10 year plan" list. and I hope to open up a donation funding option when I feel the time is right for it. Which will be when Western Wars has a positive budget to pay for itself. (For those of you who wonder, its about $1500-$2000 a year since I started.)

I'm hoping that this year I can find the right price tag per person to keep everyone happy about attending and yet also build up a fund to support the event.

By next year I plan to open up an official Western Wars bank account and have several people sign in for it. The biggest reason for this is because I won't want someone to finger point at me saying I keep all the profits when there are none.

Not that I don't think any of my true friends would ever do this, but there are always some people who try and ruin a good thing.

Anyway sorry for the long ramble but I like to make sure you all know what I'm planning and trying to do for our community here in the Northwest. I wouldn't be doing it if I didn't enjoy it. I don't seek praise for what I'm doing, nor do I want to sound like I'm an important person or bragging at all. I'm just simplify one of you guys who likes to spend his free time helping out.

Ok I'm been tallying up the numbers, it is going to be a tad higher then I originally thought, turns out that even if I get a lesser policy it still costs the same. So I figured might as well stick with the same policy we've got. That's where I was hoping to cut some costs, sadly that didn't pan out.

Expect a price of at least $25, mos...t likely a buck or two more. Still waiting to see on a few things.

Also, if we can get 100 people to attend this year, not only will this cover all costs, it would also pay off my expenses from last years event as well, and provide some money towards next year. Let's make it happen people!

Update for March.

Fair warning, this is going to be a LONG post.

For the past few day's now I've been excited to finally sit down and begin writing about this update, I've also been dreading it. There's many things that I need to cover and I hope that I can get it all out in a cohesive and understandable way. I want each of you who reads this to know, that if you have any questions at all about it. Please contact me personally and ask.

The first thing I want to talk about is the issue of Trash and littering. The park rangers themselves LOVE us, they like us so much they don't charge us for garbage or recycling pick up. They are going to provide us with trash and recycling bins again this year like last year. Also they will have a TON of garbage bags on hand for us to use.

Last year I spent about two hours walking the campsite and still finding bits and pieces of trash on the ground. INCLUDING CIGARETTE BUTTS. Also whoever left that **** ton of peanut shells by the tables near the pavilion, I had to pick all of those up. I'm not bitter about it, it was much better than the year before when I spent SIX hours picking up junk.

Trash and Littering at our event's is not just a problem at our event. At chao's wars its a HUGE issue.
The reason why we cant ever use that campsite we held several of our Western Wars at before was because of ANOTHER group TRASHING the campground.

Now I'm not saying we're that terrible, in fact I'm proud of the fact of how clean we keep our campsite's looking.
I love Beacon Rock State Park. I will NEVER leave a campsite until I am 100% satisfied there is NO garbage on the ground. The park rangers were so impressed by how clean we left the campsite that I had no less then 3 of them personally shake my hand and tell me "Thank You".
I want this to continue, but this year I want ALL of us to raise the bar.

My CHALLENGE to all of you is to not leave a SINGLECigarette butt on the ground. I don't care if it's your cigarette butt or not. If you see it on the ground, pick it up and throw it away. I know there's always going to be other trash here and there I'll have to pick up, its inevitable. But Cigarette butts are not. Do me a favor, please, throw them away and not on the ground.

Also this year I will be allowing people who wish, to donate $1 towards our National Belegath Fund. This is something that is voluntary but it would help our National Funding to grow, which in turn only helps our National Community to grow.

Pre-Reg will open on April 1st. You can send Check, money that must arrive by May 6th. Paypal will also be available again and that will stay open until the 10th.

Once again I also wish to stress that if you are having monetary issues with being able to attend Western Wars, PLEASE contact me and I'll try and work things out with you the best I can. If you can't pay the event fee, you can do voluntarily work for me to help pay for the event while you are there. This will not be total * work, rather you will be doing things like running troll, helping with feast, helping me set things up or heralding.

Also if you need GARB, let me know. Myself and others have tons of spare grab that we can lend or give you. It's not a problem.

With all that being said, lets talk about Paperwork. The paperwork is 99% done, there's only one small thing left to do and that's going to be finished up very quickly. The state park has everything they need in terms of wanting insurance papers and money and the insurance company I'm using is happy because I've paid them as well. Everything is paid for and we're 100% ready for Western Wars 8 this year.

I begin this process each year in November, a full six months before the event starts I'm making phone calls to the state park and a few months later in January I call the insurance company. Why November? Because that's when your able to reserve campsites into the next year for Beacon Rock. I start it early so everything is running smoothly by the time the event roll's around so I can take into account "unplanned" expenses.

A good example of this years "unplanned" expense was the extra $100 the State Park Board of Directors just decided to charge for events. For no reason other then wanting to make money. You might think, "oh $100 that's not alot" but I want to remind all of you. Not in a condemning way at all mind you. That I PAY for this event.

I'm paying every single dime, from my own bank account all the expenses for each years Western Wars since I started running it. The only way I make money back, is based on all of you wonderful awesome people who decide on attending this great event and helping me pay back these expenses. You may be wondering why I'm saying this, I state this because I want it known that I don't make a penny off this event. I'm not in this to make money, that is, and NEVER will be my goal. If this event makes any excess money, that money is spent towards next years Western Wars.

Now here comes the hard part

I cannot continue to keep running this event based on the current pricing I was planning to go with. With the pricing I was planning to use, I'd have to have at least 100 people show up to barely break even. As much as I could wish for 100 to show it doesn't happen by itself.

I don't want this to be about money, but last year I lost $600. I cannot afford another year like last year. Also, I'd like to make that $600 back, it doesn't have to be this year, or next year but at some point, yeah I'd like to get it back.
So as much as it pains me and this is something I've discussed with a few other including my assistant event coordinator.

I'm going to be raising the price of Western Wars to a $30 pre-registration fee and a $35 non-registration fee.

Is this a high event fee for a event that's only two and half days? I'd say yes in a heartbeat. But please be patient and let me explain why I made this difficult decision. I hope these don't sound like excuses, I'm not trying to make any.

1. The cost of things have gone up.
I think we can all agree on this, the cost of everything just only goes up. As much as I wish I could keep things the same, that's not possible. It's supply and demand. Also some of the things I was trying to reduce costs on didn't work out at all.

2. The bills of the event have to get paid.
Like I mentioned before, I cannot afford to bite the bullet again. By raising the price of the event, it ensures that the event makes enough money to pay for itself. Not enough people are attending to help cover these costs, and thus it has to fall to the rest of us to make up for it. The more people who attend this event, the easier it's going to be for us to grow and expand.

3. In order for this event to grow and become self-sufficient.
I would love to see this event self funded and I'd say this was the biggest reason for my decision, I want an event without anyone having to input their own major monetary expenses.

What I'm going to talk about next doesn't fall under a bullet point. But to show you my reasoning and where I plan to take Western Wars in the future.
As it is right now, we could possibly afford to stay at a State park for a few years, maybe for the rest of the events life. But I foresee a problem with a complacent stance like this, and with other events like this not only in the northwest but in the western community in general. Holding a day or two event in our local areas when you have people who plan to travel a few hours to attend are great things. I love them, you really don't have to spend a whole lot and you get to have a great time.

But personally there is NOTHING quite like going out in the middle of some beautiful land, away from all the white noise of our daily lives. Which is what Western Wars is to me, a place where we can all go, hang out and not have to worry about **** for a few days out of our lives.

So where's the problem? Think about how much collective money all groups (not just Belegarth) are spending talking to state parks or others and having to pay money to them to hold their events. Western Wars alone is $2000-$3000 each year. Think of how much of a huge hassle the insurance or other paperwork is for each and everyone of us to go though each year to do things like this. My point is, let's stop giving this money away, and instead starting giving it to ourselves.

I'm the kind of person that if I plan to do something for an extended period of time, I don't like to "rent" things or borrow things. I figure out a way to where if I can own it, I do so.
Some of you may have heard me talk about a "10 year plan" for Western Wars and how I would love to own some land dedicated not only to Belegarth but other reenactment groups who wish to get out, have fun and not have to worry about the cops telling them to be quiet and shut up.

I'm not doing this for myself, or hell, for this generation of fighters. As it is we're pretty much stuck with where we are. Do we have to remain is such a miserable spot? Of course not, we can do something about it, I'm planning for our NEXT generation of fighters, the people who are one day going to stand beside us as leaders and developers of this community.

This year I'm going to have a donation box for Western Wars. This donation box initially is going to be to help kick start the Western Wars fund, by the end of this year I'm going to be gathering several people and with the help of Par, open an official Western Wars Bank Account fund.
Later on this donation box is going to be transformed into "Future Belegarth Land" donations. Pretty much if you guys know how Stonehouse out east work's that's pretty much what I'm wanting to try and do out here in the west.

Do I have any idea how much land costs or how to even go about putting this all together? Right now? No, I have no idea, but as YOU'RE event coordinator I'm going to start busting my * to figure HOW I can make this possible. And I don't want go to this alone, I welcome any help in this endeavor, do you know people in the Realtor markets? Get me in contact with them, I want to start learning how to understand this stuff.

I'd love to find a spot of land (30-40 acres at the most) that has an area for us to camp, and nice grass for us to fight in with water access. I don't care if we have to drill the well ourselves water access is all we really need. Hell we could even grow the grass if we had a dedicated group of people willing to do so. Also with the diversity of our community, I'm almost 100% positive that if we worked together, we could build or make anything we wanted to on that land to suit our needs. I may not know how to plan and build a structure, but I do have two hands that know how to help build it.

The cost of such a project would be huge, but the costs of it would be eventually paid off because of the events we could appeal too. Not just to Belegarth but so many others. We could rent out the proprietary to others to hold their event's at and that in turn helps keeping the site running. Like I mentioned before, we can either keep giving our money to others at a steady rate each year, or we can eventually build ourselves up to a point where we can cut away from that leech and do it on our own.

I'd like to also state that none of this originally, is my idea. This is our idea, it's our friends ideas, people have talked about doing this before over the years but nothing really has ever been done about it.
It's my promise to ALL of you that I will do something about it, I want to make this happen. It's the next step for us as a community in the West.
While I don't have a solid idea of where this land should be located, it's my personal belief that it should be in a centralized location to all of the major fighting areas of the west. Belegarth has major population in Oregon, California, Idaho and Utah. I'm thinking an area either in south eastern Oregon, northern Nevada or southwestern Idaho would be good spots for this future land. Of course this is all speculation, many things can change over the years.

Ok I'm done rambling, I hope I got my points across. It's my hope that we can all share this and accomplish something great. If you agree, or don't agree, with anything I've mentioned here please leave a comment.

Thank you for you're time.

As I was reading, I was thinking 'I wanna donate to Western Wars, but how would I do it.' I read a bit more and bam, donation box. So you better believe I'll be donating some money for this, dare I say, crusade.

Also, my grandparents are in real estate, but they might be retired by the time the ball is rolling far enough along that property is being looked at.

I am so excited for this event. Huma, I'm glad you have a donations box. I'll be contributing what I can since you so graciously let me attend at a reduced rate last year.

To our brothers and sisters in California, Idaho, Utah, and beyond who are thinking about making the trip... just do it. Huma's will hoop, bears will be bears, the night life is delightful, and the fighting is most intense.

AUCTION AT WESTERN WARS!!

Have that super nice garb you don't ever wear? Have a gift certificate for 50 chicken nuggets to Mickey D's you just haven't used yet? Have some old armor you just NEVER wear?? Donate it and have it auctioned at Western Wars for a good cause!

What's the cause? As we know Huma has ran Western Wars for the past 3 years. Last year Huma lost HUNDREDS of dollars (due to the high costs of the new site) so we could have a fantastic time. Huma is also an individual who is ALWAYS there for anyone no matter the reason and asks for nothing in return. That's why I would like to help him raise back some of the money he lost from running Western Wars last year. No one should lose large amounts of money running an event. Huma already works two jobs on top of all his leadership in Belegarth. I am grateful that he is apart of our western Belegarth community! I also find it important to note that this was not Huma's idea to get his money back. I concocted it myself with the help of members of Catalyst!

What to Auction? It can be ANYTHING! Yourself, beer, cigs, nice garb, etc!

What is being donated so far:

Green pair of very nice Hakamas I never wear (Retail at $60.00) by Sipris's stepmom

Sex camping kit (All the things you need for bonking in the woods) by Sipris

Blue swords made by Bhakdar

30 pk of PABS

American spirits

Bracers by Acorn

Limited edition Western Wars Year of the Rampaging Bear t-shirts (1 med (gold), 1 large (green), 1 XL (orange))! by Sipris

Two pair of fingerless crocheted gloves by Wadu

Fabric belt pouch in dark red with felted black roses by Wadu

One hour massage by Pangia (non certified)

The Dirty Words CDs by Sare

Wicked The Dirty Words tshirts (if still availble) by Sare

So reach into your heart and donate an item or be there at Western Wars to buy stuff at the Auction!! Because sharing is caring! :)

April Update.

Greetings fellows! This will be my last major update before the event. Expect a small one in May.

I just want to say thank you to everyone whose shown such great support to the event so far! As of right now I'm in the process of cutting up the firewood needed for this event. If you would like to bring firewood, that's totally fine but unnecessary. Also IF YOU HAVE ANY SPARE GRILLS (Propane, charcoal or otherwise!) PLEASE BRING IT TO THE EVENT IF YOU CAN!
We're in need of them for feast.

I cannot believe the growth of this event and how many more people I've managed to talk to about the event this year. I went back to look over the old WW7 facebook page and compared it to this years.

WW7 facebook page had about 160 people respond with a yes, no, maybe or not at all.

Currently the WW8 facebook page has over 360 people responding yes, no, maybe or not all. This is more than DOUBLE the number of people in just one year!

While the number of "confirmed" people is about the same, the amount of Maybes is HUGE compared to last year. Also there will be MANY fighters traveling from other states besides the northwest who will be attending this event. I can honestly say this is going to be the best **** WESTERN WARS EVER. I've already been joking with other people about how no other WW will EVER compare to this one.

Thank you to everyone who managed to help me spread the word about Western Wars. It means alot to me.
Also THANK YOU to everyone who has volunteered to help with feast, troll, be on-site medics and security. I don't want to drag this out like my March post so I'll get to the points quickly.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
You can send Check and money that must arrive by May 8th.
Email me at Dschultz26@hotmail.com for my address.

Paypal is available and will stay open until May 11th.
Send payments to Dschultz26@hotmail.com

Pre-Reg Cost is $30
Non-Reg cost is $35

Whew, I bet everyone's been waiting for that.

I'm also officially kicking off the "Western Wars Fund"(WWF) donations!. It can be as little as $1, it can be as much as you feel like you can donate! All I ask is that you please do so if you are able to! Anything received will be treated with the reverence and respect it deserves. This money is not going towards lining my own pockets but towards the overall well being of this event. I do not make a dime from any of it. Before the end of this year Western Wars will have its OWN bank account with several responsible individuals in charge of it.

The goal for this year is $1000.

If the Western Wars Fund (WWF) raise's $1000, that covers 1/3rd of all expenses of the event as it stands currently.

If you wish to donate to the Western Wars Fund(WWF), please feel free to do so either now in advance or at the event with the Donation Box.

Also a NEW thing for Western Wars this year. $1 from the money received from each person who attends will be sent to our National Belegarth Treasury to help our National community to grow and develop. There will also be a donation box for this as well.

Also to help the WWF, Sipris will be holding an Auction to raise funds
What to Auction? It can be ANYTHING! Yourself, an hour or two of artwork, beer, cigs, nice garb, etc! Talk to Sirpis about how you can Donate!

What is being donated so far:

Green pair of very nice Hakamas I never wear (Retail at $60.00)
Sexcamping kit (All the things you need for bonking in the woods)
Blue swords made by Bhakdar
30 pk of PABS
American spirits
Bracers by Acorn

Limited edition- Western Wars- Year of the Bear t-shirt!

One last thing, Western Wars will once again be holding its War Council which is open to any and all attendees at the event, regardless of age, station or which boffering group they belong too. The goal of this council is to IMPROVE WESTERN WARS. If you have ideas that you want to be seen next year, bring them up here!

Ok everyone, I'm done. It's been frustrating at times, but overall I'm so giddy with excitement right now you can't even BELIEVE how excited I am. I'm so happy to see you all at the event! I love all of you, let me know if I can do ANYTHING for you. This isn't MY event. It's YOUR event and I'm just here to make sure you all have a **** great time you acid child tripping kids that you all are. :rose:

PDX is the closest airport, about an hour or so away. Unfortunately, someone with a car will have to answer your other question.

Dash there are several people flying into PDX. All depends on what day and time you are landing. Let me know and I'll be sure that someone comes around and grabs you.

You won't need a tent as there are 3 sided Bonavacks with wooden bunks in them. As long as you can bring a sleeping bag. If not, let me know I can try and provide some and I will also have a spare tent or two.
