Mel X -- May 20th-22nd, Waverly, IA

Postby ahlschwede » Fri Feb 25, 2011 9:31 pm

Melcaorme X!

When: Friday, May 20th - Sunday, May 22nd

Where: Camp Ingawanis, Waverly, IA

Directions:

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&fb=1&gl=us&ei=B33wS-mGJILMNLri5dMG&ved=0CBQQpQY&hl=en&view=map&geocode=FbeZmQIdxpZW-g&split=0&msa=0&msid=114226030867822858062.000469bbf0527e4c374dc&ll=42.683216,-92.410254&spn=0.00224,0.006899&t=h&z=17

This should be a link to a map taking you from the south of town to the camp site. We are at a back entrance like normal, so you should print the map and directions if you get lost easily. There is no address for the back entrance so please bring the map with you if you are worried about getting lost.

The park can be a little difficult to find, so feel free to give me a call if you should be there but are lost. PM me if you need a number.

Cost: Still getting confirmation, but probably $11. (The extra $1 will be donated to Belegarth, as it has been for the past several years). Hella cheap, and you get TWO meals. Speaking of...

Food: There will be two meals provided on Saturday. Breakfast in the morning consisting of Shakshuka and bread. Epic cauldron chili for feast after fighting is over.

Note that this is indeed just Friday-Sunday. The park wouldn't let us have Thursday apparently. :(

I'll try to dig up a map soon.

Be there. Drink. Enjoy yourselves. This was one of my first events and really set the standard well for me.

When you say Friday-Saturday, that means show up on Friday morning?

Woah, this sounds like a friday the 13th movie starring a tall, ruggedly-handsome individual. :D

I suppose you'll fit right in. Every horror movie needs a weird looking sidekick to the main character.

The reason we are doing it this way, doing lord of war rules, after talking with the ampt parks in iowa, they would be more wiling to join in in our fun, and more willing to get more amptgaurders in our area to join, if we were willing to do this. and since getting a good showing of fighters from IL is sometimes like pulling teeth. We are doing this for the numbers. SO everyone can have a more enjoyable fighting experiance. that is why we.. the group of NB, have decided to do Lord of War Rules for the event this year.

Hello! Some friends and I made the trip out to Wolf Pack for our first event this February and had a blast! For a while I thought this was the closest event to us (7 hours :D) but I found this event was happening (only 4 hours!). I had a few questions for you guys on what exactly happens at the multi day events, I've never been to one. Are minors allowed to come with a notarized waiver? How many attend? What else is there to do other than fighting? Any other stuff I should know. Sorry for being a newb and thanks!

Yes. Minors need a notarized waiver, as well as someone to serve as their chaperon. Chaperons need to be 21yrs or older, if I remember correctly.

Other things to do depends on the event. Mel is generally pretty small (around 60-70 on avg I think), and very chill. You can just hang out with people around the fire, do whatever. I believe there will be another edition of The Tourney this year, so that'll be highly entertaining. :)
And I suppose if this your first outdoor event, make you come prepared for camping. It is just a boy scout camp, no fancy amenities. Any other questions, feel free to ask!

As far as amenities, there are bathrooms and there might be showers. NO promises on the showers. I can promise clean water to drink though, so that's a plus.

Like Galya said, you'll want a tent and a sleeping bag and whatever else you would normally bring for camping. You'll want to bring food to cook/eat as only one meal has been promised by the organizers, there are a couple towns withing 30 mins if you forget anything and have to buy it. Be sure to bring feasting gear, preferably something relatively period.

If you're new to eventing Mel is a great place to be since it is super communal, for the most part everyone hangs out in one clearing and there is one main fire for the enjoyment of all.

Untrue! We'll be serving breakfast on Saturday as well.

On another note, I've updated the first post with much more information including directions to the park.

Since the cost is already so reasonable, is there an incentive for pre-reg? Also, where is pre-reg?

Generally, we don't do pre-reg for this event. Or at least they haven't in past years. I can bring it up to the autocrats and see what they say.

In case this is still an applicable question, it is apparently as Galya said and there is no pre-reg. If you want to send money ahead of time I'm sure we can find someone for you to send it to, but as it's $11 I think anyone who wants to go can make that happen.
