The Odyssey: Atlantis Rising (Oct 7-9, 2011 - Jax, FL)

Official Announcement, FL Foam-Fighters Association wrote:Official announcement, the only thing it is missing is scenario information. I will be visiting the property this Sunday to get a good look at the site and plan scenarios that are consistent with the event's lore (for those who like flurb). Regardless, this will be one VERY enjoyable experience.

The campsite is an ideal location for FL fighters and GA fighters to meet in a centralized location - a 5 or 6 hour MAX drive for fighters - even in the farthest reaches of both GA and FL; however, most of you are looking at a much shorter ride. If you need a ride we can work it out - we'll have enough people going up. Because of this location, we have extremely good chances at breaking 3-figure attendance for the first time in FL Dag/Bel history. This location offers both field and woods combat - the woods being a good canopy for shade... though October is pretty decent weather. There are fortifications (3 or 4) on site as it is an airsoft team's practice and event location. This is a GREAT site for scenarios as we have SEVERAL acres to work with.

I am expecting an impressive FL attendance; the last day battle (Oceanside Onslaught III) was 60 people even. Camping events tend to draw more. I will be promoting the **** out of this event and I ask you to do so too. With enough locals stepping up and enough coming down from GA, 100 won't be a problem.

October 7-9, 2011; start planning sooner than later! Ladies and gentlemen, this will be historic; don't be left with pictures and stories... come be a part of it! Lets get the state camping, lets get some northern Dag/Bel "bonfire culture" at our events... Lets continue to make the south a better place to fight! Florida, lets break 100!

Without further ado...

THE ODYSSEY
Year One: Atlantis Rising

Event Dates:
October 7-9, 2011

Location:
Southern Outskirts of Jacksonville, FL
3887 Darlene Rd, Middleburg, FL 32068
A perfect central location for Florida and Georgia fighters.

On-site Fee: $25.00
Non-combatants: $18.00

There will be no special pricing exceptions made.
If you're at the event you pay the fee, it's your choice not to use the services provided.
Price based on the ground's fees, porta-john rental, and feast.

The porta-johns are a privilege; if they get disgusting I will discontinue their use in future years. If you want to groom yourself bring babywipes or a solar shower. If you're worried about skipping a shower, you probably NEED this "camping" experience anyway:P

EVENT LORE
The Odyssey, Year One: Atlantis Rising

Backstory – Excerpt from the History of Atlantis
Atlantis, in antiquity, was a trade republic ruled by a council of wealthy merchants. The city-state was erected on an island in the middle of a lagoon; it was the only hub of trade in the hostile marshes. At the time, the thalassocratic republic held uncontested dominion over a number of self-governed city states and riverside trading posts which grew at major junctions. The only enemy of the republic was a bestial horde that made its home in the mangroves and inland forests known as Gorewood. Atlantis was secured by rough terrain, thick city walls, and a phalanx-trained guard of volunteer citizens.

The final days of the Atlantean Republic were heralded in by the thundering skies of the tempest. For days the city was pelted by hail as massive waves crashed over her walls and destroyed all ships at port. The flooded city-state soon collapsed under its own weight. An offshore merchant fleet bore witness to the tall city collapsing behind the treeline; the inlet’s waters were too rough to attempt passage and the vessels were being battered by the tempest. They had no choice but to sail north to the nearest port, carrying their story with them. Thus, the legend of sunken city was born. This was far from the truth.

The tempest passed leaving the ruined city completely cut off from the sea. All ships were either reduced for a floating mass of planks or half-submerged. The sea gate had collapsed and was beyond repair - cutting off any aid from the ocean. The survivors, surrounded by the floating corpses of their loved ones and fellow citizens, banded together – taking shelter in the remains of their ruined capital. Through the violent echoes of the now-distant tempest, ominous horns and drums could be heard in the treeline, the bestial hordes approached…

What was left of the guardsmen held what little ground they still had for several nights until they could attempt any counter-offensive. The fortunate ones drowned with the city of legend; the survivors faced a harsh reality.

In the war that ensued, the guardsmen abandoned the phalanx; for it was only effective when they could hold a line. Not only had Atlantis’ lines had been broken, but a phalanx could not be formed in the thick mangrove forests surrounding the lagoon. Once challenged with little more conflict than day to day law enforcement, Atlantean guardsmen now organized raids on bestial encampments for food and equipment, ambushes, and long reconnaissance patrols. Facing a physically superior enemy from poorly fortified encampments, the Atlantean citizen hardened or died; those who could not fight were dead weight. A once wealthy nation had been reduced to a guerilla resistance.

After several generations of existence as a thinning military society, the tides would finally turn. Bestial in-fighting over what little loot was left, along with a dramatic drop of Atlantean captives to feed upon, had disgruntled the hordes. This in-fighting was supplemented by the allegiance of a small band of beasts when a belligerent warlord’s execution was halted by an Atlantean ambush. The minotaur’s knowledge of the bestial warparties and the locations of their encampments yielded the guerilla armies of Atlantis the advantage they needed to pick off the tribes in a strategic manner. The bestial hordes were purged not only from their lagoon, but into near-extinction.

Victorious, the warrior society that Atlantis had become abandoned the original Atlantean charter, it represented a fallen republic of commerce; Atlantean society was militarized by the same guardsmen that ensured its survival. Generations of combat with no aid had hardened the society and given them a sense of superiority over the lesser peoples who abandoned them to the hordes. Not only had the Atlanteans been abandoned, several of their former posts had been developed under different banners. They really had, indeed, faded into legend.

The harmosts of Atlantis spent the next six years observing these encroachers from the widely-feared woodlands and building a nomadic military society. The marshes of Atlantis had become their home. The Oceanside Onslaught was the raid that acted as the official declaration of war against the rest of humanity, these xenoi pigs had advanced in technology; however, they had become complacent in their security. Following the battle known as Oceanside Onslaught, the new Imperial Atlantis launched a mighty fleet and began a series of amphibious invasions. The encroachers were offered two absolutes: serve the Empire, or be tied up at water’s edge and abandoned to the rising tide – suffering the same fate as did their city of legend.

The Odyssey, Year One: Atlantis Rising
Not long after the declaration of war, Atlantean observers patrolling the peninsula’s northern borders located a xenoi (foreign) army amassing to the north of their outpost. Their encampment flew banners of both local encroachers and unknown northern origins. Acting immediately, the 17th Lochos (Jacksonville Chapter) dispatched couriers to the nomadic Imperial Encampment; they then launched a guerilla campaign to hold the army at bay while they awaited the arrival of the Imperial Nautikon (Navy).

The 17th would use subterfuge to create unrest in the invaders; they would ambush enemy patrols; they would draw the xenoi deeper and deeper into the woodlands, where the remnants of the shattered bestial hordes were still at large – provoking the beasts and forcing their hand. The 17th fought valiantly; however, the xenoi were too many in number and their scouts inevitably slipped through – locating the Atlantean outpost, forcing the 17th to fall back to their fortress. They would dig in and prepare for the coming siege. As the xenoi armies approached the village’s walls, a fleet of triremes grounded themselves on the beach; the Imperial Nautikon had landed.

Blood will run…

Bones will shatter…

Drawn to the sounds of battle, the broken and vengeful bestial hordes will take their toll…

Heroes will be made…

The first Odyssey has begun…

I know Oktoberfest is a close event, it may even be on the same weekend for all I know; it's on the other side of the country though.

The Odyssey Event Map is complete, scenario information to come tomorrow!

Clean - http://imperialatlantis.org/OdySite.jpg

Marked - http://imperialatlantis.org/OdySite2.jpg

Pickup fights and morning warmups will take place at the location of "Scenario I." We will then proceed in the order of the scenario locations.

Fishing and swimming are permitted at the pond.

Also note, a pair of harpy skulls, a cyclops skull, and a minotaur skull... these are general spawn points. The harpies and cyclops represent their appropriate corresponding monsters; the minotaur skull (in the thick woods) represents the Bestial Hordes. The horde consists of minotaurs, centuars, and satyrs. All five of the above-mentioned creatures from Atlantean lore will be present at least once during the event, some multiple times. They will spawn at random points in the day - you must face them one on one to take their trophies. Beware, you face no men... they will have unique rules, these rules will not be in your favor.

It'd be nice to see ya all.

One of my guys is seriously looking to move to your neck of the woods. I'm not sure if you've met Picnic, but he'll be there.

And while I'm posting in this thread... special announcement for anyone attending or considering attending this event. Plumbing (a shower and real toilet) will be available to females (almost exclusively) and for males in extreme cases of need IE: a freaking pterodactyl escapes Jurassic Park and takes a dump on you.

I wish to thank Atlantis for a great event. I enjoyed hanging out with old friends and meeting lots of great new people. Florida is really growing and if you have an opportunity to get to an event there, you won't be disappointed. Great people, great temperatures, great fighting!
I feel sorry for people who don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're going to feel all day.
