Last Hope LARP - Stonehouse Park, Earlville, IL - Aug 26-28

Hi everyone!

I wanted to get the word out to anyone who might be interested in coming down to Stonehouse Park for a live action role play event this August 26,27, and 29th, 2011. We've teamed up with the Park and Edhellen Armoury to try to bring a large scale european style LARP to the states.

Some of you may be interested in other events that are not Belegarth and if you are, I ask you to take a look and see if this is something that interests you. If you are not into a game where you are in-character all the time and involved in an overreaching storyline, then this is probably not for you. Also, this LARP and event are not competitive; the emphasis is role playing and being a part of the experience, not just on winning. I understand that this may not be everyone's thing and that is fine.

Some info about me...
I've been somewhat involved in Belegarth since 2004 but actively involved since 2010.
I am primarily involved in Airsoft events and I do event coordination; I am the organizer behind http://www.operationvigilance.com (middle eastern themed airsoft event) and http://www.operationplague.com (action packed zombie themed airsoft game) and am heavily involved in http://www.freefallgame.com (a firefly/serenity style live action role play).
I've recently put more focus into building my event production business (Lupine Productions) and one area I've been toying with for years now is a new live action role play.

Some info on the larp...
Last Hope is our attempt at combining some aspects from numerous games and rules systems into a single setting that is easy enough for players from numerous backgrounds to come out and enjoy.
The setting is dark & low fantasy medieval... there are no super fanciful things in the game; monsters are dedicated role players with top notch costumes and players are human or very human-like; there are no furries, cat people, half orcs, etc. Yes there is magic (bear with me) but it is very simple and easy to understand for both caster's and players... they are similar to just different colored rocks.

The game primarily uses latex weapon combat so it is a medium contact and more controlled strength fighting style than Belegarth. We've play tested the rules for months and finalized a combat system that is very realistic, still requires a lot of energy and strength to fight, and makes the fights last much longer to keep the game going... yet make them very simple. This is NOT a light touch wrist-tap LARP combat system.
Weapons do 1 damage; you get hit until you are out of armor or hit points. Very little math is needed and it keeps the combat fast and intense.

Our game is full-in character; there is an out of game area for normal camps and clothing but the in-game area is full garb, full immersion, and in-character. We will be forgiving to new players attempting to make garb but jeans, normal t-shirts, and tennis shoes are not allowed (since we play Bel, this is pretty normal for us). We want the in-game area to be as full immersion as possible.

Our focus will also be on night life, dancers, feasts, music, quests, storyline events, etc... We want this to be an awesome experience for both fighters and non-combat players as well.

For all the event info on the new LARP, go to http://www.lasthopelarp.com. We will be running smaller events periodically (every month or two) in the Madison, WI area and also at Stonehouse Park.

For info on the upcoming large scale event at the Park on Aug 26-28, the direct link is http://www.lasthopelarp.com/oldworld.html. This event will be run once per year and the focus will be very large scale. This year, we will be giving out a latex weapon to every player with paid entry, so new players will have a great chance to try it out. Players who are into the roleplaying, character development, and using skills/magic can play sign up to play full characters as per the normal rules... but players who want more fighting, less harsh death rules, and a lower focus on full role playing can play Footmen; they are designed to be fillers that focus on fighting and following the PCs (characters) as they perform duties to benefit the army camp. We also have NPC roles available for anyone who wants to come out and give it a try but is on a tight budget. This gives players several options to come out and try it and have some fun.

Any questions at all, feel free to email me at lupine_productions@yahoo.com

Thanks!
