Wolfpack Opener, Sunday Feb 26 2012

Postby drdook » Thu Oct 27, 2011 11:09 am

Are the dates set for WO yet? I have had schedule conflicts the last two years with this event and early planning might keep that from happening this year, I HOPE!!!!
Thx,

Could we just assume it'll be around Valentine's Day weekend? That's when it has been held the past 2 years I believe.

We've been trying to keep it middle of February, but it really depends on Athletics. I wouldn't hold any specific time to be assumed -- we can't even reserve the fieldhouse until after January 1st, I believe.

If it can matter, I beg upon the Wolf gods NOT to make the opener on the weekend of 2/18. I am again tied up running a foam tournament at our high school Madrigal Dinner and have never been to WO, and I am an ISU grad and I am whining.... someone hit me.....

Also, ISU isn't back yet, and the person who runs the fieldhouse reservations doesn't believe in answering his phone.

Do you guys have an idea about when you're going to try to reserve? IE beginning of the month/end of the month? I'm looking at flying up to Chicago for a weekend, and having WPO be one of the things I do while I'm in the region.

We will probably shoot for after Valentines Day. It will then depend on the Athletics schedule.

And yes, this guy is a *. And has been for years. How he keeps his job despite not answering his phone, I don't know. Actually, most of the scheduling guys we've worked with have been like this at ISU. This explains a lot.

School starts this week and we will be able to get to his office. Hopefully we can get dates this week after classes resume.

I understand everyone's frustration, no one is more frustrated than us -- we've been dealing with this since WPO grew to needing the Fieldhouse. And as long as we need the fieldhouse, we aren't going to be able to provide dates until after the school year starts.

While we understand, it is what was left and we get the leftovers. We are not a campus sport that generates much income/donations/scholarships for the university so we don't get priority.

Just an FYI on specific rules for the opener.

#1 You must completely fill out the waiver, no exceptions, you don't fill it out, you don't fight.
#2 You must wear shoes, this is not under our control, the university requires it so we have to follow it, if you don't wear shoes you don't enter the field house, if you refuse to wear shoes to fight, well you don't get to fight.
#3 No fighting under the overhangs, too many people hit the lights, and I really don't want raining glass filled with mercury residue on the field.
#4 Boundaries, While we would love to use a soft edge for boundaries, there's a lot of dangerous stuff that could hurt you, from bolts on the walls to holes that could break your ankles, listen to the heralds when they say, STAY OUT OF MY BOX.
#5 No pushing/bashing people over the edge, while it seems like it may be an awesome idea, those bolts and holes mentioned above (along with tons of other hard ****) can cause really bad injuries so don't do it, period.

Also just like in previous years, filling out a waiver before you get to opener will get you a dollar off. We are keeping our wonderful day event to a 5 dollar fee, so if you bring a pre-filled waiver (Here is the link you will get in for 4 dollars.

Thanks in advance for coming to our overgrown practice. We love the support and help that you all show by helping out and showing up.

NO. Because there are brick walls and all sorts of sharp and hard sports equipment around, no bashing off the edge of the world. At least, that's been the rule the past 4 years.

Although...I may be wrong. If I'm wrong, I'll edit this. If I'm right...I'll poke Davit to edit his post to reflect that rule as well.

Shoot Davit a PM.

And Bevin is absolutely correct, no bashing or pushing off the edges.

Exactly right and. This has been the rule for ten years
