So the wife and I have started looking at land here in the midwest to hopefully build a home on and utilize as a permanent site for belegarth/dag/and other reinactment groups to be able to utilize i was wondering what are some of the first fire hoops im going to jump through and why some campgrounds are unable to hold events. If You all think i am nuts feel free to say so as well but it is worth a try.

The reason so many campgrounds don't want to host events is a liability issue. Since they're a business, they need all kinds of insurance and such.

If you operate your property as private, and not as an official campsite available for rental, you'll get around all of that craziness - provided you have solid enough liability waivers for events.

I think one of the bigger issues you personally will run into is zoning laws and building permits, if you decide to create permanent structures.

There are a lot of LARP, Medievalist and Boffer groups in the Midwest. But everyone is so spaced out, travel is a big hindrance.

The NorthEast (Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware) have a higher population density, and has the biggest events in the country: Ragnarok, Pensic, etc.
