Obtaining indoor practice space during winter

Postby Shell » Mon Nov 20, 2017 12:17 pm

The group I recently joined is looking to find a place to practice inside during the winter. Polyethylene foam just doesn't do too well when it gets cold. If anyone has had success in obtaining a heated indoor space to practice, could you let us know what worked for you?

A lot of groups get friendly with local churches, community center's, YMCA's, martial art studios, and even livestock pavilions.

A few points to help you out:

1) Most places are going to be concerned about safety. Explain to them the nature of the game, and how our equipment is made and used. Don't call it weapons.

2) Some placed may require you to have insurance. Some churches will require you to be 501(c)3 non-profit. Providing proof of Belegarth's NPO status has been enough for some groups in the past. As for insurance, some places may ask you to pay a fee per person, or an upfront fee. Alternatively, they could require you to go get insurance of your own. Unfortunately, that's kind of a no go for small groups.

3) Usually you can work with groups like the YMCA or churches to exchange volunteerism for use of facilities.

4) Be kind, courteous, and respectful to the people with whom you are working, and their facilities.
