Why do people wear armor?

thanks,
Uther

Uther,
All of the weapons are padded where you can be safely hit even with strong force.

We may have a realm close to you, where do you live? (City & State?)

The weapons are made to hit solidly, but not really painfully. It's not abnormal to have an occassional bruise, but that's about the worst of it.

Some people choose to wear armor because it affords them an extra hit to the area the armor covers, so if I'm wearing greaves I would have to be hit in the same leg twice before the leg would be "gone".

Does that help?

Armor is not required for participation.

In fact, I would suggest that you learn how to fight WITHOUT armor for a while. Getting a good grasp of hit taking before attempting to learn armor rules is a good idea.

Check out the realms page and see if we have an established realm near where you live.

Best of luck!

Uther,
How close are you to Fort Worth? Alfheim is located there and the leader of the group is a good guy. Here's the realm info with their webpage

"CITADEL OF ALFHIEM
Fort Worth, TX
Contact Name: Sathallarin
Contact Number: (817) 560-1662
http://www.geocities.com/Alfhiem

Comments:
We meet at Thorny Ridge Park on sundays at 2pm in fort worth at the intersection of normandale and dale lanes"

Let me know if this isn't within driving range for you and I'll see what else I can come up with.

Where in Tarrant do you live? I live off of Hulen, near I-20.

the more people fighting, greater intensity, sure people get hurt, maybe injured.
then again at practice last Thur there were 16-20 people, I was there for an hour+ and within a span of 15 minutes I was struck on the left and right side of face. So **** happens, suck up and war on, or just watch.

I've only seen a handful of serious accidents at events ever since Belegarth began. (And some of those were the same person, he's just got a knack for it.)

I've seen a LOT more medium and minor injuries at practices. Of course, there are only 10 or so events a year that most will make, and practices can be 1-4 times a week, depending on where you live, so I'd say you're a lot more likely to get hurt during practice, just based on the sheer amount of fighting that takes place locally vs. big events. (Holy run on sentence, batman!)

I'd have to say your best chance for injury is during a smaller practice, just because you're doing them a lot more during the year than a big event, and you're fighting a lot more during a smaller practice too. It doesn't take as long for 20 people to die as it does for 300+.

Anything worse than stubbed fingers/sprained joints/welts/bloody nose/heat exhaustion/nut shots gets into the extremely rare category.

i spent a bunch of time getting my fingers broken for some reason. i recommend gloves or gauntlets, especially when fighting people who seem to just flail around wildly instead of figuring out how to hit with accuracy.

Yes, and if you value your thumb and wish to attempt catching a javelin, gloves are a must. My thumb still broke, but the gloves re-set it for me and saved me a whole lot of hell.

Depends where you got hit, and what you got hit with.

Arrow to the face=bad
Javy to the face=bad
Glaive to the face=very bad
Red weapon to the face=bad
Flail to the face=bad
Spear to the nose=bad

Glaive to the crotch=very very very bad

So unless you get hit in the face or crotch, it doesn't really hurt.

i would have to agree. just try and stay away from any glaves. especially in ered duath in provo utah. they tend to find crotches pretty darn fast, and pretty darn often. oh yeah and dont forget about the occasional throat shots from everything.

Maybe not the best testimonial for a Belegarth commercial. Glad you stuck with it though. =)

Hey guys, try to remember what forum you're in. Your responses here are supposed to be helpful, not your best attempt to freak someone out or impress them with your fortitude in the face of serious pukeage.

In other words, keep that stuff in GM and leave it out of the New Member forums. The mods have been quite clear about that in the past. Please don't make us go back to heavy moderation here.
