tell your friend to see how long it takes to yell "DEATH OMEN, WATCH YOUR BACK!!!"

use the yell test. if something sounds cool when you yell it and/or it doesn't take alot of time, then it's a pretty good idea. if someone sticks to a name that doesn't pass that test (like some lengthy elvish thing, for example) come up with a nickname and only call him by that. he'll hate it for awhile, but it'll stick, especially if you make everyone you meet call him by the nickname.

it's why people have buddies: automatic annoying nickname generators.

and you can do what you want, but... keep in mind that a death omen is a thing... not a name. if it's a nickname though, which I guess is possible, it's (in my opinion) the kind of nickname one should be assigned for a valid reason (from someone else). it seems kinda... not right, to CHOOSE that name.

I gotta go with Conn on this one. Yell test it and you will find one to two sylables at most works best. Mine is two and in the heat of the moment gets shortened to "MEF"

i kind of like that idea of doing it backwards... and yes it is a nick name, im not sure how he got it. but he is set on it, and we were just going to call him omen, or something.

Omen is fine. You also want to try to pick something unquie too. Lord knows we have enough Shadows, Killians, and Ariochs running around. I don't think I've heard someone with the name of Omen though.

There is 1 Jarlaxle on the boards, but in battle Im called "Lax" so i dont die.
There is a Sir Jarlaxle somewhere but Im the only one on the boards
Killian does seem like a common name but the one from Andor has used it as a gaming name and pseudonym forever.

Postby Lady Elestirne » Mon Mar 27, 2006 9:23 pm

For my part.my name properly is Lady Elestirne Starbrowed in full. But this of course is far too long to be shouting on a battlefield,or even in familiar use. Most cannot even pronounce 'Elestirne' right ( E-less-tear-neigh) Thus, for convienence for the mortals who can't pronounce my true name,I have the nickname of Eles..and on field it is either that or sometimes the general 'hey elf!' There is also the occasionaly 'Lady' or-as one certain barbarion/werewolf in my realm prefers 'Lady-elf'. I'll answer to any and all of these, though I do prefer my true-name.
