the mithril forest

Postby Valduthain » Tue Jun 27, 2006 10:09 pm

Would the mithril forest make a good realm name or do you think it sounds to cheesey?

Also considering steel leaf forest.

While its not bad, it doesn't really sound like the name of a realm. Now, it does sound like something that the name of a realm could mean. If you want to base it off of tolkien, just look up the words and put them together. Ex. Our realm is called Nan Belegorn. Nan= valley, Belegorn= Mighty trees. So for us, Nan Belegorn mean the Valley of the Mighty Trees.

Mythril Forest sounds better than the "Forest of____" stuff. It's a nice, active set of words. Then again, I'm from the Crimson Fields duchy, and therefore biased. If we were "Fields of Crimson" it'd sound like a description in some lonely goth poetry, and not an actual place name.

Mythril Forest is problem-matic because no one knows what mythril is suppose to look like. Crimson Fields gives you the idea of red fields of a grain like plant.

Emerald Forest is good because people know what you mean when you say emerald.

dont dis the goth poetry, although emo is better....

kidding...

i dont know, a forest doesnt usually have alot to do with mythril, if it were the mines of mythril or something, mabey, but i'd go with something like suggested above, personally i like forest of silver leaves.

But.. but I wanna dis goth poetry! I need a big, shiny target to throw things at! (Seriously, it was all in good fun).

One last bit of advice for you, Valduthian: at this point, you've got enough names for 50 different realms. All of 'em are great names/translations respecting your original two themes. Now, (and here's the important part) take all our well-meaning advice, pick a list of names that appeal to you, * everyone on the board's opinion, and run the list by the people starting a realm with you. It works wonders.

Side note to Savetuba: Never thought of the red fields of a grain like plant. We're really named for all the red clay around here, and most commonly get "that's great! like a field of blood!" It just sounded better than "hicks with sticks," which was also a viable option based on our locale.
