Where to start?

Postby thaonna » Mon Apr 26, 2010 8:26 pm

I'm not sure where to start so I'll just spew out a lot of information.

-I'm very interested in Belegarth. I've attended and mini event in March or February.
-I have an older brother that may be interested as well.
-I'm still shy to hit someone hard, but that should go away in time.
-I have a makeshift tunic that will do for garb.
-I finally got a job to buy supplies for weapons, but I have to wait two weeks for my next paycheck. =P
-I live near Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
-I plan to attend more events during Summer Break.
-Willing to learn! =]

tl;dr
Looking for people to show me the ropes.

First thing I would do, is get in touch with Poo on these boards, he's the only active fighter I know in Milwakee. My next question would be, can you make it to Madison? Making even just one Madison practice would be a big step towards understanding the game.

There is no realm in Milwakee, I know, and starting one can be pretty intimidating, but having Poo as a resource would help if that's a decision you choose to make.

The good news is your only about 2 hours from the site that hosts the most midwest realms! Also Madison puts on two mini-events a year!

Feel free to ask more questions (actual specific questions would be awesome!) other than that just welcome to the sport!

You should go to Armageddon IX in June! Like Jimmy said, it's only 2 hours away from you, and Bo has promised it will be the best event evar. :D

You're doing great. With your brother get some more friends interested and form yourselves a realm. This can be as simple as picking a place and time to fight each week.

If you're worried about injuring people then don't. A properly constructed weapon will hurt when it hits but not injure.

Anyway, welcome to the sport.

Correction: a properly constructed weapon will hurt but not injure when hitting a target area correctly...

on the other hand.... when you hit your room mate's thumb square on with your blade edge, you end up with a pretty badly jammed thumb that keeps him out of work. ^_^ win

This is why you keep your off hand out of the way when fighting single blue. Lesson learned the hard way. :axed:

Depends on your definition of "out of the way". When fighting single-blue, I always place my off-hand across my chest to protect myself from torso-shots. It's better to lose an arm than die right off the bat.

While a good strategy, it was just that that got me thumb jammed :(

Was your hand open or closed? Making a fist would help protect the thumb a bit. :)

His hand was on the grip of a weapon, actually. I'm not sure what exactly happened that i was able to strike his thumb head-on when he was holding a weapon, so anything I could offer there would be mere speculation.

Wait...I'm slightly confused here. You said that you had your off-hand across your chest like I mentioned and that's how it got jammed...yet you were holding a weapon? 'Cuz that sounds like florentine, not single blue to me.
But either way, I can guess what happened. You fight with your fingers on the handle and your thumb up for better control, right?

Yeah, I was checking my blade orientation with my thumb when I had to parry across my chest, his blade slid down mine and crunch, I'm sorry for the misleading post earlier :( was single blue in off hand due to not having the other arm at the time.

Thanks Bismarck, I noticed. I don't mind that much though. The first reply basically said it all. I'll be seeing Poo this summer so I can get more involved, but I'm not sure if he's still in your guy's realm.

Btw, I like your guy's colors more.

Yes, welcome! Yay Wisconsin! (Boo back east. :))

And neh, it's newcomers. Short attention spans are the norm. :)

There are no staffs in Belegarth. Because of how they are constructed, they are really Pugil Sticks.
