Southeast Kansas

Postby Jerial » Sun Oct 30, 2011 3:25 pm

Hello. I am deeply interested in Belegarth. I have a little experience with battle games, and have searched far and wide for a realm of some kind to join. I believe I am going to start a realm in Southeast Kansas, which is an area sorely lacking in realms (the closest being in St. Louis and Kansas City, 4 and 3 hours away respectively). As I am under 18, I have petitioned a few adults to assist me and a few friends in creating a functioning realm. Anything you guys would like to say? I believe I have realm name down, will vote on a few heraldry options, and have DL'd the Starter Pack.

You'll want to talk to the folks from Arnor. They're the St Louis, Missouri realm, and one of the biggest presences down there.

Looks like you're on the right path to getting started, though. Good on you for the initiative to get going, though. Hit up the area at large, and be sure to spread pamphlets/flyers to local game shops and student hangouts. Hold your practices in areas with a lot of visibility. Have fun with it, and make sure that everyone that stops by to watch/participate has fun.

PM sent to Sir Angmarth...thanks for the redirect

Edit: Just to add, we honestly have no weapons at all...and next to no garb...not asking for anything just saying that we definitely need some guidance with what weapons to make...it seems like just mass produce blues and rounds with some greens on the side...maybe a few arrows for the few that use a bow...which is me and one other member...am I right?

You're on the right track. You'll want some blues for people to use until they get addicted and make their own. After getting some blues built up, make a few shields. From there expand to other weapons (red & greens). Save the yellows (arrows/javs) until you're good at making weapons since they tend to be the most dangerous (they are head legal after all).

After getting a half dozen (or so) extra blues, you'll want to get some simple garb made. Tabards for sure. That will take you from people hitting each other with foam weapons to people doing a medieval combat type thing.

Hope this helps some.

Where exactly in Kansas are you? I know there are Dag realms loosely over that area. Can you drive?

Closest I can think of is either Stormwrath, out in Newton/Wichita area, or Ravenwood in Joplin on the Missouri Side.

Joplin is about an hour west of here and Newton is about three east. That help?

Edit: Switch those directions. East and west, respectively.

I shall have to contact Ravenwood sometime soon. Is there a place that I can contact them? Any established practices/events soon?

Thank you guys all very much...I will definitely be reaping in the 'Christmas' money from relatives for weapons...and will get in contact with Ravenwood...

Edit: Just PM'd an admin of Ravenwood, awaiting reply...sorry to bother but thanks for your time (oxymoron if you ask me but...)

No problem wasting time. That's what we're here for. I hope to come down to ravenwood sometime this next year and go to a ravenwood realm battle. When you go to practice, ask them about Bard. They know me there. :D

Every story you hear? Do the opposite. DO NOT EMULATE BARD.

Hey, I have been utilizing the past few weeks not on physical training but on stressing rules and what works, and being serious about Belegarth. Also, we are exploring the different weapon types. We still don't have much in the way of equipment, but theory and the meaning and purpose are what we are looking into now. I am really wanting to make my current group the officers and it is sort of a 'class' so they can recruit and exponentiate membership once we all get up to scratch.

thats a good idea jsut be careful not to have too many irons in the fire. i have my leader of the wall- kaz- and his second he picked and then i lead the skirmish and my second Gid. were the only ones that enforce the rules and what not but everyone is encouraged to invite ppl. we have business cards, a web site and fliers as well as posters around the city. its a lot of fun but im finding even after the 3 or so yrs playing.. im still learning new rules!

when it comes to weapons .. trial and error. im just not experimenting with the dap.. its ok. you should see the first weapons we made lol. if your looking for open cell find some couch cushions form old couches and what not. its a lot of fun and all- if you want in the spring maybe we can get together and fight and what not . wed love to have you!

If you get the chance to travel, grab a couple dudes and hit up a localish group. People in established groups would be more then happy to help show you how to fight, build weapons, recruit, etc.

Sounds very good...I have friends up in Olathe I can stay with as well as in Wichita so groups near there I know of...I have access to a big van we can all take (me and the officers) to one or both sometime...maybe spring break or summer because more than half of us are still in school of some sort.

I have friends that live/fight in Wichita (Stormwrath) and the Johnson county area. There's a weekly practice in Shawnee Mission Park (Lyonesse). I recommend either, full of good people. Good fighters are few and far between.
