Are these arrows legal?

Postby Croc » Thu Feb 16, 2012 5:15 pm

I'm new to archery and I was wondering if these arrows would be a legal core.

From what I just read in the book of war those arrows should be legal. Unless the metal core restriction applies to arrows in which case you would need to know whether there is any metal in them. From what I could read on my iPod there wasn't any metal indicating it would be perfect for belegarth.

But I think it says they're only 20" long. You'd want longer arrows than that.

That's a preference though, if you think you can work with 20" arrows then by all means go for it. :)

Not in a full size bow. Only doing a 20" draw, even with a standard bow, will completely gimp your range.

Buy other arrow shafts, OP.

That's why I said if you think you can work with it. :P my reply was based on the fact that I don't know how big his bow is, not the power, nor the draw; but I digress, the question was "are these arrows legal" and my answer was "I believe they are" :)

QFT

Except for the drawing 20" with a 20" arrow part.

28" arrow shafts only allow you to draw to 25 3/4" when using Edhellen kits. I know because those were my arrows at Chaos Wars X back in 2006 and I still have arrows of similar length.

20" crossbow bolts will only allow you to draw to 17 3/4", and will be extremely head-heavy. 28" shaft-length Belegarth arrows have barely enough weight counterbalancing the head to have enough range to be worth using. These bolts with a foam head on them will be head-heavy to the point of being worthless. That's before taking into account that you can only half-draw with them.

I may not be very knowledgeable in the realm of Belegarth, but is he asking if these are legal ARROWS or legal crossbow BOLTS? They are crossbow bolts anyway (at least that's what Gander Mtn. Says...).

Do this.

Unless you want to be drawing at 17 3/4". Good luck scoring any hits with that. :P

Crossbows are only allowed to draw at 15 pounds in our game, making them worthless. Not to mention that crossbows are usually already just above half-draw anyway. Even if they aren't, crossbows require more weight than normal bows to shoot an arrow/bolt with the same level of force.

To put it into perspective, 15 pounds for a crossbow is a small children's toy used to shoot plastic bolts with only suction cups for padding.

We tried to discuss changing the rules on the forums in the past to allow crossbows that are worth using in our game, but nothing anybody came up with was ever considered good enough for a motion.

Long-story short: We don't really have crossbows in this game.
