Unarmed Open Palmed Strikes

Postby shadowulf » Sat Mar 10, 2012 11:05 pm

Okay so I have heard of other realms and seen other realms do this but is this okay legally, I have done this myself a couple of times and all that it pertains is that the one who uses this wear gloves of a kind to make his palms weapons. This does not break any rules I know of since the unarmed strikes I believe were considered punching and kicking.

He wears "iron" gloves and cannot wear armor since he must "grapple" to fight but we count his hits as a single blue. Is this possibly legal or can be made legal? It is basically a eastern fighting style. It has decent hit, but no harm and he can "break" an arm by grabbing it and squeezing lightly just as if one were to grab one's head and call it death.
In case of blocking he can grab a weapon by the blade with his gloves, and can "block" using his open hands.

I personally think this is fine but I want to know if this seems to far or could be good under the rules.

"3.6.3. No throws, unarmed strikes, or joint/nerve holds."

"1.4. Creative interpretation of the rules to gain any advantage is discouraged. These rules are intentionally sparse to allow for ease of use. "

"3.7.5. Gripping the striking surface of an opponents Weapon results in the disabling of that limb."

"1.5. Prohibited Weapons:
1.5.4. Punching Weapons"

There are no staffs in Belegarth. Because of how they are constructed, they are really Pugil Sticks.

Holy ****, **** NO!
Unarmed strikes will never be legal. Not ever. stop think about it.
Furthermore, there is no **** way an unarmed strike can do what a sword does. No way, not ever, I don't care if you're Bruce **** Lee.
To allow this idiot tho think he can do that is irresponsible at best.
If I(or any number of other folks) were fighting at an event and your friend hit them with his hand he would first be beaten up very badly, then be throw out of the event. Do not EVER attempt to punch or kick another fighters in any way. We are SWORDFIGHTING HERE, man. Not just brawling. When the fists come out, people like me stop play the game immediatly and start fighting for real. You do not want that.
Read the rules, go to some other realm, and most of all, simply ASK veteran players about these type of things in person. This is the kind of embarassingly dumb **** that doesn't need to be asked in public.

Can I ask a similar-ish question?

Pushing is legal, right?
If so, where is the line between pushing and open palm strike?

I don't think I have ever pushed anyone without using my shield or perhaps the padded haft of a spear on their shield. I guess I have shouldered into some people, but once again, they would have had shields, so the force would have been to that.I would feel pretty dirty shoving someone with my hands; that seems to cross the line.

I mean, I've done it before. Maybe three times in all of my fighting, cuz you know a sword kills people, my hands only move people. I'd feel like a huge * is pushing was against the rules...(looking at them now)

* foo's is even more fun. I say we vote it in, allow it on the field. The only thing is, you have to put baby-powder on your hand every time you hit someone.

Tails I think pushing comes under the rules of grappling, so you'd have to follow all the same rules there. I've pushed someone back who was trying to grapple me. It just happens.

Kool, I mean, kill them if you've got a weapon, but if not it's all kosher.

There is a reason that rule is in effect in all known medieval combat rules.

Open palm hits can be VERY life threatening. People don't understand the amount of force your fist absorbs in a punch. Nor do they understand why our weapons are padded. >.<

A medium amount of force in an open palm strike to the chest can cause the heart to mis-beat. Ever wonder why CPR works? Or why the first thing soldiers covered on their body was their chest?

This thread has probably been solved for a while. Just wanted to put in my two cents. If you wana spar, go spar in a ring.
