Not totally but sort of completely new here.

About a year ago I had to take an extended break from foam fighting, I did a lot in my local area in Central Iowa, I really like the concept of everything and am finally coming forward and wanting to setup my own realm or area again, or possibly even play in an existing nearby one (if there are any)

Main reason I stopped last year was because I was diagnosed with an AVM (a blob of veins/arteries in my brain) and had to have brain surgery, so naturally full contact stuff like foam fighting wasn't really an option, being fully recovered and probably more fit now then I've ever been I'm interested again, and so far belegarth seems to be one of the more active of the options.

If anyone can help me find, or give me advice on starting a local group, any input is appreciated. :)

Did you fight with Tir Asleen (Ames, IA)?

Anyway, where are you located now? Best way to find people is to list a location.

Newton Iowa, the group i fought with was originally out of Pella Iowa, they fought with rules of dagorhir, had a few ex belegarth and amtgard fighters, but they were never officially any given group. They've moved on to ren fairs and fighting with shinai/steel.

Alright. The closest realm to you is going to be Tir Asleen in Ames, followed by Nan Belegorn in Cedar (Rapids?). Contacts for those are going to be Galya (Tir Asleen) and ahlschwede (Nan Belegorn). Troll is in the DSM area at the moment, and I think there are a few Dag groups in southern IA.

Iowa fighters are good people. You stand to learn a ton. As far as starting a realm goes: http://www.geddon.org/Starting_a_Realm

Any info on how I can get ahold of these folks? tir asleen group doesn't even seem to have a valid website from what I've seen, and any info on any of the iowa groups has looked kinda ugly considering their links haven't been active since 2010 and some since 2008

First big step is to contact the names I've given you there. Outside of that:

And I know NB has an active page, but I can't find it. I'll make sure that the relevant people see this thread.

Actually, I just remembered that Galya is no longer in TA. Contacts there (on this board) is going to be Calarn. He doesn't post much, so I'll make sure that he looks.

Yeah, no matter what I'll be getting back into this stuff, either an active group or me making one I'll end up doing it. Already reading over the starter kit info on the creating a realm deal.

Lol, I was going to point to Reeka rather than me, but that works too. Thanks Cale. :)

Also, might I suggest the Facebook group? https://www.facebook.com/groups/2200781590/

NB is in Cedar Falls, so it's a bit of a drive for you.

Tir Asleen is definitely your best bet.

Yup, It's still a decent bit of a travel to get to TA, I went there on their last practice and have made my decision that I'd love to play with them more often but at the same time I need something closer and there's a decent interest in it around here so I'll be forming my own little realm over here.

as of right now I've gotten access to a 4.5 acre piece of land to hold events at, and permission at a local park to hold practices, now I just gotta get garb + weapons going and should be set for the most part and learn as I go from there. whatever that may mean :axed: but no I really do have alot of confidence that this will go well! :wizzard:

Wait, what's been deleted? What did you search for?

I went to the page for registering for a new realm and it said the page had been deleted.

Um...okay, still confused about that. Anyway, you really don't have to "register" your realm. Just choose a name and then you can create a page for your realm. Usually including location and times of practices, contact info, etc.

hm, okay simple enough, I'll go ahead and put together a website for us. i'll embed google map locations for each event or maybe put the events on facebook but link them via the website or something. But definitely thinking this is all gonna be epic once it's said and done and operating. :)

Awesome, good luck!

On a side note, if you run in to any errors on the wiki (or website, for that matter), feel free to either PM me or post a message in the Web Design forum here and I'll take a look.
