Do you guys know of any other Brits on here? When I first heard about Belegarth and did some Googling, I was really surprised that no-one in the UK had done it yet.

Amazing! Best of Luck with your new group. I know that we all wish you the best and want you to keep us posted with how it goes. If I ever get to visit, I will stop by one of your practices before I head off to kidnap Benedict Cumberbatch...

Update on the Berkshire Armsmen: due to some slight arguments, management changes and decision-making, we are no longer strictly a Belegarth realm, now using a sort of mashup of rules from Belegarth, Dagorhir and a few ideas, including weapon making, from http://bit.ly/KPVpcU.

I'm sure one of the vets will be along with their input in a while but personally after being involved with Bel I'd be wary of some of the things advised on that site. The weapon making may be more cost effective but the weapons are much more likely to hurt someone in the coarse of a fight and they'll break down a lot faster. If it's what works for you and your mates then by all means have a blast but it doesn't meet the requirements that we've been taught to look for in Bel.

The duct tape covering, the stabbing tip how to, and the greek shield are the things that just right out at me as things that wouldn't pass.

Well, since we're seemingly the only foam fighters in the country, I doubt we'll be going to many events. ;) Anyways, we just want to have fun with what works for us, not necessarily fastidiously following every single Bel/Dag rule we're using as part of our custom system.

Even if you're not going to events, you should want to have safe weapons. I really recommend you use the tutorials on the wiki that I linked you to in the other thread. The weapons will be safe for whatever level of contact you decide on, unlike the ones from the page you linked. His technology for making swords is where ours was...five+ years ago.

We fight with a medium level of contact, and have had a number of skirmishes so far with the Lukrain-designed swords, and they have held up surprisingly well and not caused any injuries beyond slight bruising, using 3/4 inch PVC and pipe insulation coated in duct tape.

Heya! I'm that Sleuth chick that's living in Bristol at the moment. I would most definitely love coming to a practice! When do you meet up? I will have to see if I can catch a train up that way.
