half oval shield?

i was watching random videos on youtube and came across an oddly shaped shield. i kno its a dag video, but are shields like that bel legal?

As long as the shield is safe and built in accordance with the rules, it should be fine.

I think he means the shield opposite the Roman. The guy in the black armor facing the Roman and the kid in what looks to be jeans?

Yep, they're legal. The only thing to keep in mind is that the 36 inches is measured across the face of the shield.

There's actually no rule stating its 36 inches across the face. Just the maximum width is 36 inches.

True. Across the face of the shield is how I've seen the measuring done at weapons check. Going with the overall width could lead into the creative interpretation clause.

It could,but you'd have to get an advantage from it. Big old shields like that are actually more a hindrance than a help. If you want some chuckles, go to the dag boards and find pictures of drunken bob fighting with a full barrel for a shield. In the end, the curvature was used more for letting blows slide off of the front of the shield, something that we dont have to worry about since foam loves to bounce, and therefore detracts from its usefulness.
