Hello i live in pendleton,IN. I've checked my area and the closes group I've found was in Indianapolis. a little far for me as of now. I'm thinking of starting a group here though as there are none to my knowledge in the northern region of Indiana. i have 4months of amtgard. and a couple years of sca. I'm 26 years old. Served in the army for 8yrs deployed twice.

There is also Rhovanion, which I think is Bloomington, Indiana. Not sure where that is in relation to you. PM Nish for info. I am sure someone will post the startup info from our wiki soon.

Welcome to Belegarth.

If you do get a group up or even maybe in the process of starting, contact the nearest realms and see if they would be willing to pitch in. We have a tradition in my region where we "raid" fledgling groups to boost their numbers and help recruit. It might be worth it to see if others would be willing, plus the established vets can show you the nuances of heralding and weapons check.

Steps to start a realm:
1. Learn the rules
2. Buy or build some weapons
3. Get some people together
4. Go outside and beat on each other

That's legit, thank you. * far as i saw there was 9pgs of rules. most of which i already understand thanks to amtgard/sca. there are minor differences but nothing to major. looks like a fun sport.

It is a great sport. I also recommend:
1) Starting a Facebook group with a short but informative name, i.e. Pendleton Medieval Combat
2) Switch your personal email out for a realm email, i.e. PendletonSword"at"kickass.com (then check it often)
3) Always meet when you say you will. If that means committing to fewer or shorter practices, do that.
4) Every interaction is a "business" interaction. Be professional and friendly to grow your realm.
5) Letting any groups with similar interest know you are popping up in the area. These could be martial arts groups, LARPs, cosplay, other fighting groups, ARMA, SCA, or historical reenactment groups. The reason for this is to be a friendly neighbor. We find that people already interested in dressing up, fighting, or history can be easier to bring into the sport than the average person on the street. It gets your group known in a friendly way and welcomes people to try it out. Don't put down any group, stress the good things about them, but emphasize why yours is more awesome - people like to be around positive people.

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
